Welcome to Librarium Online!
I'm looking into starting another force, and just so happen to wonder in here since the new codex was released.
I see many opinions about the new codex, and I was wondering if a "shooty" nid list was possible?
I mainly got the idea from watching old episodes of CSI, and having something like "Hive Fleet Grissom" was just too good to pass up!
Thanks in advance.

The new dex has awesome devourer gaunts, troop warriors that can be upgraded w/ good weapons, hive gard (who have range 24 bs4 s8 ap4 assault 2 guns), zoanthropes, who now are bs4 w/ a s10 lance weapon, plus mcs can take some pretty decent guns. so yeah, id say you can absolutly do shooty nids.
--Famous last words of Asmodean
- Zoanthropes have Str. 10 lance shooting attacks and AP 3 Blast shooting attacks
- Hive Guard have Assault 2 Str 8 shooting attacks
- The new devourer termagants are 10pts, but have an 18" range at Assault 3 Str 3.
- Biovores Str 4 AP 4 Large Blast (barrage ie pinning)
imo carnifexes are a bit overpriced now in comparison to some other MC's but a lot of other option got a lot better. The very basic termagant is very nifty now too.
These are just a few very nice shooty options and this isn't even considering all the new nasty psychic powers that the tyranids have.
So yes, Tyranids can be shooty and could be shooty for a few ed's now.

shooty nids? we only did that last edition cuz it was one of the best builds. Now we are very CC oriented with good fire support. Why would you want to purposefully play shooty nids if they arent even the best build. Go play tau, IG, or Eldar even. You shouldnt choose the most obviously CC army if u want shooty, i mean thats just common sense, or IMHO.
I know not what weapons World War 3 will be fought with. All I know is that World War 4 will be fought with sticks and stones.
Let's not forget the Tyrannofex. He's supposed to be designed for dakka dakka, at least. In practice, I'm not sure if BS3 does 250+ points justice..
He does have access to a nice Str 10 "Auto Cannon" though, and can fire three weapons per round, one of which is your choice between one of three very nifty template weapons.
I've recently become a fan of this thing called Dubstep. And you should too.

People should STOP looking at armies in a stereotypical way. Nids are played for the flavor and the models as well.
Back on topic:
Try something like this:
Doom in a spore
Hive Guard x2
Hive Guard x2
Tervigon + Catalyst
Tervigon + Catalyst
Tyrannofex + cannon
Tyrannofex + cannon
This makes a 1850 point list.
Make the 2 prime's join the 2 fex's for easy cover save. Keep the Termi's in front of them. Hide the tervigons behind that unit, the hiveguard behind the tervigons and the 2 tyranno's behind the hiveguard.
With a bit of proper movement everything will have a nice 4+ coversave except for the termi's, but they're getting rebuilt every turn anyways.
Ow don't forget to DS the doom where it wreaks havoc and distracts.
I made this list up last night, will check it out soon. I took 100 points for the prime's because I didn't have the dex nearby. You can lose up to 2 gaunts to make them 105 each. But that'll work out just find I think.
'Thou shalt not refer to the Adeptus Soritas as "Bolter Bitches" nor shalt thou go anywhere near our sisters during the time of the "Red Rage," lest thou wishes to be the first human to enter orbit without the aid of a shuttle.'
A quick point bloodlord, you cannot join an IC to a lone monstrous creature.
Reagrding T-fexs (usual story) im not a fan, i dont think theyre acurate enough for the cost. Id go for this brute if you want a shooty gunfex.
Heavy venom cannon
Twin linked devourers with the worm things
This comes in at cheaper than the T-fex, and is a bit more reliable thanks to the blast weaponry and twinlinkness. Furthermore, it can handle anything that you throw at it, transports and tanks can be popped by bio-plasma and the HVC, nearly everything gets hurt by devourers and the bio-plasma is great for taking out MEQs if close enough. Just make sure it has synapse so it dosnt charge forward.
If you were prepared to take 2 instead of the t-fexs, and put them together with the primes, then you could get the cover save, although its a hidiously expensive unit and will atract firepower.
And @ Magicuser quickly, so nids arnt shooty, but we have the heavyest weapon in the game on zoanthropes, what is arguably one of the best transport poppers in hive guard, fanstatic firepower in Dakka beasts, Awsome devourer guants, guants that can be refreshed thanks to the tervigon, Doom of malanti which is awsome, The HVC harpy which is phenominally fast and can get easy side armour shots, huge customisation of carnifexs, The T-fex and biovores which destroy hordes like nobodys buisness.
I think we're pretty shooty, dont you?
