    Carni plus Venomthrope combo

This is a real great way of protecting them from shooting and combat, as that dangerous test can make a charge not a charge allowing you to charge in return. You can also sit a venom thrope behind the carnis for protections as well and he can charge to allow your carnifex to attack first since his whips.

I've been thinking about trying this combo out myself. It can't be overlooked that it also gives them defensive grenades, as many armies that lack the shooting to bring down fexes rely on the extra attacks of the charge to take them on. one less attack from a charging powerfist holding unit is always nice!

Why not try chucking a Tervigon into the mix with Catalyst, giving your Fexes Feel No Pain?

Hardly worth it as those weapons people fire at the fex first will ignore FnP anyway.

How did you work that one out? Fexes are T6 so seeing as there are no S12 weapons then they will always get FnP against normal shooting

May I remind you that AP1 and AP2 also ignores FnP both of those can be found on lascannons, demolishercannons, plasma guns, plasmacannons, meltaguns, multi-meltas, brightlances, starcannons, shock attack gun, fusion guns, dark lance, etc etc etc.

las and plas have a low enough AP that FnP cannot apply.

Toxic miasma is not particularly great as it happens at end of turn and needs B2B - if the enemy is worried about it, they will simply smush the venomthrope.

Dangerous terrain tests dont restrict movement - thats difficult terrain tests. Dangerous terrain inflicts wounds if your roll poorly. Most dangerous terrain is also difficult terrain - but spore cloud is not.

Venomthropes would make sense if they are providing these buffs to a brood of 2-3 carnifexs moving forward. Attach a Prime to the carnifex brood or the venom thrope and this team becomes awesome, but remarkably expensive.
As of Tyranid 5th Ed. codex I have the Gaunts I wanted. I did, however, loose the sniperfexs I relied upon and they were more important then the gaunts.

yes thats true but you would get FnP against AP3 shots, the most common of which to encounter being a krak missle. I think it is definately worth it if you have a tervigon in say a tournament list to use catalyst on fexes. besides, being T6 and only power armor level saves, it is much more likely that people will attempt to use volume of small arms fire to bring down fexes now, making FnP likely to be worthwhile.

Also a charging horde would lose many models to the dangerous test which can be game breaker.I think all thhe buffs one provides its definatly worth 55 points and can easily be hidden behind a unit of carnifex. The tervigon would be even better bonus to this combo. Imagin 2 tervigons, 6 carnifexes, 2 venomthropes. Now that would be devastating.

Agreed. The question is, as this combination seems to be very defensive, would this work best with close combat fexes or fexes given ranged weapons? I personally think that sniperfexes have lost a lot of their appeal since the last edition, but it may still be a viable option with this added durability.
