Welcome to Librarium Online!
After trying out the new tyranids I realized they are just not the right army for me, so I'm going to revert back to my old love from 2001 of the tau. I was thinking of doing something different to make my army stand out, and though I know many have done this before. I wanted to make an all drone army.
I know the simple things like using riles on drones to count as warriors and a similar procedure for pathfinders. But my list has a heavy focus on Battle suits, broadsides and a squad of 2 Piranhas.
I was thinking of purchasing a bunch of the Heavy gun drones from Forge Worlds to use as the basic Suits then picking up some bits from the different bits sites to turn them into the Fireknife arrangement. I also thought it would be cool to use the Remora drones as piranahs with a few conversions to give them the proper weapons. The one I'm stuck on is the broadside. I know I could use the heavy drone but I have no idea where to get the railguns. Ebay did not have any listed an nor do any bits sites.
The nice thing about this is that it really would cost about the same as building the army normally (minus shipping), the only thing I'm stuck on is those broadsides.
Any suggestions? Also I see no reason why this would not be Ard'boyz legal so long as its WYSIWYG, agree?
To be honest, I'm of 2 minds about this;
One one hand conversions are good and awesome, I myself had planned a converted Tau army based on the Appleseed Movies,
but on the other hand I'm not as such about this.
I'd say it could go either way based on the Execution.
Blue Table Painting have done an all drone tau army and it looked stunning, they had drone hammerheads/broadsides/crisis suits/stealthsuits, firewarriors, normal gundrones the lot basically. sorry couldn't do a link but go on you tube and type blue table painting tau drone army, there is also a bat rep of this army playing IG, enjoy.
That BT drone army is a beautiful piece of work.
ninjabackhand: point and click, again, really? even after i give you an military term "shock tactic" you still call it point and click.

Wow. That is amazing, thanks for the link Rikimaru. That gives a great idea on how to tackle the Broadsides railgun too.
