Just finished building the Parasite. Figured I'd share. I've seen some pretty crazy over the top conversions. This isn't one of em.
I just wanted something that looks and feels like the rest of my army. Specifically, I wanted it to look and flow like a gargoyle. Put them side by side and they look like they belong together. I used a warrior as the base for the model.
List of bits used:
Dark Pegasus Wings
These looked the most niddy to me. Easy enough to mod some extra talons on there. Gargoyle wings were too small.
Body and Arms
- Impant attack tongue from Genestealer.
- Top horn from fex kit, you probably have a zillion.
- Mandibles from the claws of a hormagaunt. (I pretty much disected a whole hormie for this project.
Legs & Tail
- Spikey bits from the Trygon kit. (The trygon kit is pretty kick ass for spare bits.)
- Adrenal gland.
- Standard warrior rending arms.
For the tail and neck I heated a wire and pressed it inthe plastic to create a nice snug socket. The wire helps stregnthen the green stuff and help it keep shape while working on it. The warrior tail was easy to bend by heating the plastic very carefully. Just bent it slightly each time. Well here's the pics.
- Hormie legs
- Poison gland under the tail.
- Carapace on top from the top of the hormagaunt head.
- Scything talon for stinger.
This shot for comparison with a gargoyle. Hope this is helpful to the hive mind!
Pretty amazing job in my opinion. This is pretty much exactly how I imagined the Parasite. A big Gargoyle. I especially love the tail and head.
In fact...I know how I am going to be making my Harpy now. Awesome!!
...I like it.
However, by the look of it in the codex, I'd have given it Warrior sized Scything Talons instead of Rending Claws and Hormie sized Talons instead of the Hormie Legs. Gives it the 'Flying Tyranid' look, instead of the 'Tyranid that can fly' look, if you follow me.
Very good work on the tail too.
That's an awesome conversion! Thanks for sharing.
ninjabackhand: point and click, again, really? even after i give you an military term "shock tactic" you still call it point and click.

Love it! Please post another pic when you've painted it!
I like it however in the picture of the parasite it has scything talons not rending claws
WH 40k Armies (W/L/D):
Tyranid: 2250 Points of Awesome (5/4/1)
Necrons: 1000 Points (4/0/1)
Thanks for the comments! I'll post a pic when done with it.
I chose rending arms because that's what the profile says. More of a personal choice I guess. Rending arms just look cool on a warrior. Got talons on just about everything else.
As for the legs I was kinda torn on it. Personally, I found the new gargoyle legs to be a little too stubby for my liking. I figured small legs would give it that atrophied look. At least with small legs you can kinda see him jumping off a perch or a marine head whatever. Talons could look pretty cool though.
seriously awesome that looks amazing i really want to try and playtest the parasite but i only have 5 ripper bases and i would rather have more just in case.
Very nice! I'd love to have a parasite that looked like that keep it up man, and do post some pics of it when you finished painting it. I'd love to use the parasite in my lists, but I just don't know how to convert one, and I don't have any shrikes or gargoyles to accompany it. Will probably get some in the future though.
"I have seen you humans, trying to forge an Empire in the name of a corpse"
Given any thought to doing more than one? When not fielding a parasite you could plop 3+ on the board and call them shrikes.
