Welcome to Librarium Online!
Hey guys. I just read the rumors about what the Dark Eldar missions are going to be like, and I'm interested to read what you all think of it. And first let me say that it is darn nice to be getting some attention from GW, even if it is just three missions and not a sorely needed codex update. Okay here it is:Do these sound like something you would want to play often? Could it bring life back to armies that have stopped being played? Slave Raid and Feigned Retreat sound interesting to me, but I'm not a fan of GW's rules for night fighting. I might play Dawn Raid, but only using my house rule for "night saves" instead of rolling spotting distance. Slave Raid might actually be a clue as to what GW will do with our slaves rules in the future, so that's kinda cool. And Feigned Retreat sounds like *gasp* a defensive mission for DE. I see the 2+ rule (or something similar but less drastic) replacing our "always attackers" rule in the future. Maybe seize the initiative on a 4+ or something along those lines.Dark Eldar
- All Dark Eldar missions have the Dark Eldar player going first on a 2+.
- Night Fighting applies and stays in effect unless a 6 is rolled at the end of the turn.
- The winner of this mission is determined by a tally kept of prisoners taken as 'slaves'.
- Dark Eldar player gets 1 Slave point whenever an enemy unit is wiped out within 18" of one of his units, bonus points for killing enemy HQ models in close combat.
- Table is divided into thirds lengthwise.
- Dark Eldar player deploys two units in the center section, with the rest of the army in his own. Enemy deploys in the remaining section.
- Special rule "Follow me, suckers!": Dark Eldar units in the center section get Hit & Run.
not sure if this will directly answer your question, but I am quite sure that the Dark Eldar are getting a new codex sometime in the near(ish) future. Their inclusion in the Battle Missions book is certainly to stimulate interest again before the new codex comes out, and to server as a reminder that GW has not forgotten its players.
Agreed, BIGphil. I'm not too concerned though, since I pretty much just play with a fandex these days. I'm more interested in that new models the Jes is hiding from us. Anyway, are you excited to use the DE in these new missions?
Dawn Raid – with this mission and the some of the stratagems in the Apoc book I think we are getting a taste of what’s to come. Personally, I like it but I am more of an Assault kinda guy rather than a shooting one (anything that messes with the opponents shooting phase is fine by me!). I believe there will be upgrades and gear that is going to use this mechanism so I am going to embrace it if it does. This line fo thinking also make me wonder if Nightshields is going to get revamped but that is just a wild guess.
Slave Raid – I agree that this is going to be the new method of getting slaves. I always like the idea of snatching slaves so I am very happy to see them create new rules for it.
Feigned Retreat – this mission is unique in that it refers to two things I am going to go on a limb and guess about and that is Killpoints and Hit and Run. First, something tells me they are going to re-work the kill-point structure in our army. Currently I do hate kill point games but I also think it’s the right mechanism for the game – hopefully, they fix it like they did for IG.
Second, I notice it uses the “hit & run” rule as part of the scenario – I am hoping that this is not the only example we will see that USR and would like to see it on more than just the one unit we currently have (the hellions). Since the mission allows the 2 units in the middle section (troop choices) to have the H&R USR then I think we can safely say that our future troops will not get it (which is a small nugget, no big deal).
They’re not bad really, I like the missions and hope a new codex will make these missions even more fun than what we got now (as we still can not outflank, scout, infiltrate, & deepstrike normally – even the wwp is messed up).
"On a hunch, I melted them down and inhaled the fumes and read the dark eldar codex again, AND FOUND A BUNCH OF NEW RULES HIDDEN BEHIND THE OTHER WORDS..." [Gardeth on modelling & interpreting the DE Codex]
Well, i already had a glimps of the book and i realy like what i read. Especially the slave raid.
Slaves can be taken in three ways.
for each round of combat you win, you get 1 slave.
for each enemy unit you kill in combat, you also get one slave.
so if you kill a unit in your first round you would get 2 points, one for winning the combat and 1 for killing the unit.
and the last way is, i a enemy unit is killed within 18" of one of your units you also get a slave.
each slave you get out of an HQ is worth D6 slaves.
I realy like thouse rules and am looking farward to test them.
Just a note. Night raid and Slave Raid Dark Eldar get first turn on a 2+. On Feigned Retreat it is a 4+. Also the units in the middle can be anything providing they are not heavy support. They Don't have to be troops. For me this could mean a new use for Reaver Jetbikes. How nasty would that be?! =p And with T4 they may actually survive to break off and fire...unlike the hellions. Throw in a haemy and Xenospasm and you got a truly nasty unit.
Other then that perhaps Grotesques could work in a raider...except that you can't do that as it reqires 3 units..so they'd be foot slogging =p but still!...
Or you could just deploy a WWP straight in the centre =p lol that could be fun.
Hell yeah I would play those. Going first on a 2+? Should become a standard for Dark Eldar armies.
Slave Raid? Prey they don't take you alive!
Feigned retreat? Wait what, a WWP behind the enemy?
Awesomeness waiting to happen.
Innovation suffuses this hobby like a tea bag in the boiling water of play.
sorry to bust your bubbles a little guys but in the battle mission pretty much every mission the army its based for gets the first turn on a 2+, so i doubt we will be getting it in the new book, i would like to see hit and run on wych's but its not going to happen probably , if theres one thing i can guarantee you about the new book, its that you will be suprised at most of it, noone actually knows whats coming and going until its published, and they will be nothing like the fan made one on this site, dont get me wrong i like the fan made codex's (i tried out the one on the front page and its ok, too slow and heavy for my liking )
but the battle missions are ok
