Welcome to Librarium Online!
Since ive gotten such positive reactions to my painboy and ppl wanna see more, i will be posting more pics of my badmoon army here whenever i get some more models finished. I hope you all enjoy it
Up first is my trukk ( a bit clean but i'm making everything a bit more dirty since i painted this)
And some Nobz and Boyz
And ... A Nob Biker !!!
Nice job! I might copy some of that.
Wow grandmaster these are amazingly painted! I am completely jealous because my bad moonz paint job seems awful now! haha might i ask though how do you get that yellow? I've been having trouble with mine looking dull and yours just looks amazing.
The Yellow is not easy to do, especially on large areas cause it needs several layers to give it a solid coverage. I start by painting it with a mix of about 50/50% dark flesh and golden yellow(still a dark collor and not yellow yet) , followed by another mix with more yellow (this one looks orange), then i use a mix where ive put a bit of dark flesh is a pot of yellow (it looks like dark yellow or almost orange) this may need several layers if you are doing large areas and its VERY important that you always use watered down paint so you keep smooth layers without paint lines ruining it. Then i highlight some areas with another mix with some drops of dark flesh added to a pot of yellow (this is my main color basicly as the golden yellow is too bright). Next i darken some areas by using the previous mixes (i mix those too to get a smooth change from dirty/orange to yellow. And finaly i highlight the edges with a mix of golden yellow and some white added, or in case of the area's i darkened previously i use golden yellow or one of the previous mixes that is lighter than that area but not too light (highlighting the edges gives it a lot more depth).
I can hear people thinkg: "woa thats way too much work" .. but:
1) I skip the darkening on my normal boyz and since they dont have all that much yellow armor anyway it doesnt take all that long at all. Plus you will need to paint several layers anyway if you want a solid yellow.
2) I have all my colors premixed so i can just grab a pot and paint for a few minutes whenever i want without having to mix anything but paint and water.
3) Badmoons also look cool with partialy black armor and clothing wich saves a lot of time which you can then use on the yellow parts (I painted my battlewagon in the way i discribed but if you dont wanna spend ages on it like me i would advise you to make most parts black and just stick to a few yellow parts)
4) As you said yourself: it looks amazing
If you have White Dwarf 351 (march 2009) check out p88. When i saw the article from 'eavy metal and how to paint the badmoon warboss i instantly fell in love and went out to buy my first orks. I use the same technique they describe there for the skin too (orkhide shade => knarloc green => goblin green => 4:1:1 goblin green, golden yellow and bleached bone=> 2:1:1 of the previous colors => final highlight with bleached bone (i use bleached bone + goblin green here)
I hope this helps
Gork and Mork approve of this. Waaagh!
