Im working on upgrading my 500 pts army to 750 and i would really love to try war walkers, the thing is that i'm not sure what weapons to put on them, starcannons or scatter laser.
My army so far:
wave serpent with TL BL
10 DA, exarch, bladestorm, 2x catapults
So, should i expand with 3 war walkers og go for another serpent with banshees. If walkers what weapons should i give them?
i would most likely refield my farseer to have guide instead of doom, and use that on the walkers to compensate for their somewhat low bs.
Phew, that was it for now, looking forward to hearing your oppinions.
I'm not sure what your plan is for the future but if your planning to play 750pt games I think the extra Serpent with Banshees, Dragons, or DA's would be better. The only reason I say this is that I love to flank with Walkers but at 750 your risking more then 15% of your army not comming on the right side/time. Also, if you take either a AT weapon on the extra Serpent or the dragons then you can compensate for low number of high ST shots in the list.
Hope this helps.
I'd personally drop the pathfinders, take more Avengers, pick up another serpent, and if I have points, take War Walkers.
Wave Serpents are stupid good, so I always try to field as many in a list as I can.
Always scatter lasers, they're not only cheaper, they're better as well. Star cannons are hideously overpriced for what they do.
The art of Eldar: Paint clean, play dirty!
Scatter lasers are an all purpose gun, they are cheap, have good range, fill many roles and work well with mobility without being negated by cover.
Star cannons are far more specific in their role, they are to kill MEQ and you need to be ticking alot of boxes for them to do this well. Have you popped the transport, are the MEQ unable to receive a cover save, are you going to be able to weather return fire.
If your facing alot of 3+ saves and are a skilled player you will probably be able to make starcannons work in the right circumstances, they just require alot more strategy and planning than your scatter lasers which are not only easier to use but cheaper, which makes them expendable.
Scatters or shuriken cannons. Hands down.
Eldar -APOC- 6500 Points
Chaos Daemons -Fate Crusher- 3500 Points
Grey knights - 1000 Points
Okay thanks alot everyone!
Another fun fact about scatter lasers: they compensate for low BS with volume!
40k: Silver Angels of Our Martyred Lady 7/2/3 - Daemons of the Great Squiggle! 3/1/0
Fantasy: Windhost of Athel'Loren 2/0/0 - Daemons of Another Great Squiggle! 0/0/0
Warmahordes: Legion of Everblight (Absylonia)
QQ for everyone while we're debating War Walkers. If I get 3 WW with Shuri Cannons for 120pts and 2 WW with Scatter Lasers are 120pts too, are Scatter Lasers still worth it?
Shuri Cannons will give you 18 shots, Higher AP. Scatter lasers give you 16 Shots, longer range. Is the extra range really worth losing resilience of the unit (2 instead of 3) and one AP point? If the extra points are there for 3 Scatter lasers then sweet, but I play Mechdar and if I'm going to trade a Fire Prism out for War Walkers I need them to be in the point limits and worth every penny. The AP doesn't really matter as much as getting the extra model but who knows, sometimes it helps.
This is on topic as the most effective War Walker Composition is an important thing for new Eldar players.
