Hi everyone just a general question, how does everyone go about getting these girls (Banshees) into combat ?
Do you just move them on foot ? Move, fleet ,assault ?
More Specifically if you have them mounted, do you move the transport, get out, use the transport as cover, then assault next turn ? or do you keep them in the transport get them out next turn, and move and assault ?
Just curious, though this seems like a simple question(s), What about when again you have units supporting the banshees say DA (mounted, depending on if you have done the same to the banshees, I'm going to assume).Do they get out the first turn, shoot, then wait till next turn when the Banshees get out to move up; shoot, assault (the last if you think they are going to need it) or do you just keep them both in their transports until they both can get out an assault?
Thanks for the help in advance. The Prince
Banshees really need a transport to be effective, people see that many powerweapons in the open and they get shot up. As for getting them out I tend to move up then wait for the next round to get out. With fleet they can generally catch most targets that try to flee. If I support their charge with shooting from another unit ( often the ladies are enough against their prime targets for me ) I will get a unit out the same round the banshees get out.
I usually put my banshees in a wave serpant with star engines, get a farseer to fortune it, then turbo boost it into the enemies face. As long as you keep the backend away from enemy AT that serpant can often take most of an armies AT and still be there. Next turn the banshees jump out and stomp something.
Wave Serpent, go as fast as you can, banshees can fleet so can outrun most enemies easily and then assault. Without a Serpent, they get shot down like fleas. People know how much damage they can do, so they aim for them as priority targets. Which is why you should always aim to kill your enemy on the second turn of combat to prevent having to stand around for a turn and get shot at.
Always aim to have a Farseer nearby ready to cast Doom, if not in the squad itself. They need to do all those rerolls to make up for their lack of strength.
Agreed. I have 10banshees + Farseer (doom/fortune) in a WS with star engines. WS moves 36" first turn into enemy's line (I will always have another WS with DA or Fire Dragons as well. Gives my opponent 2 targets). They get the 4+ cover save for moving fast, and can re-roll with fortune (if you have Eldrad, then he can fortune BOTH WS's!).
Next turn, banshees disembark and assault (before the WS moves!).
Works very well. Even the times my bansees only wiped out 1 squad, it put troops and vehicles in my opponents rear line, forcing him to deal and ignore my other advancing forces.
Yes - Never ever footslog them - people are scared of banshees for good reason, and pretty much every weapon will kill them good! Most people do big squads 8-10 to overwhelm their opponents, if you think you will wipe out your opponent don't doom them beforehand and hopefully you'll finish your opponent in his assault phase.
Personally I do a 6 doombanshee squad in a falcon in my 3Xfalcon list(usually 2 seer councils in the other falcons), if your gonna run them that small though they NEED doom and pick your targets carefully - they're not a hammer unit but at like 113ish points they do a pretty darn good job - I've had them sweep much more expensive necrons/marines, and if you don't think you can take your target pump some shots into them first - I use my grav-tanks pathfinders for that role. Though often I just use them to turn the battle when my council is stuck in against terminators and the like.
