Harlequins /w Kisses
Shining spears of course
Ok very slowly converting my Seer Council on Jetbikes, and eventually want to play them in games, and I'm wondering if you where to have a wave serpent mounted HtH specialist squad to stop them being tarpitted what would you chose?
Scorpions, Banshees or Harlequins?
At the moment I think Harlies are too expensive when you add in kisses, despite their other advantages since I will want the squad in a WS so they can stay near the council as necessary, and they end up being considerably more expensive than the aspect choices. This being said they do have Fleet, and I could possibly do without the Seer/VoT since they will be transported.
Scorpions have bonus attacks at higher strength, which is particularly good against hordes, and they are tougher with their save, but no fleet.
Banshees are PW weilding psychophants, they have fleet, and hopefully working in conjunction with the Seer Council will be attacking doomed targets and not facing large amounts of counterattacks.
Just keeping this kind of scenario in mind which would you personally choose?

Banshees. Your seer council can do everything a Striking Scorpion squad can do, but better, the Harlequins are great units, but what you really lack are power weapons. Your banshees will take down any power armour/terminators, while your Seer Council takes out everything else. Just remember to doom and fortune every turn!
Yea thats definately the direction I'm leaning at the moment, and not just because I think the newer Banshee models look wicked!
I had quite a few of the older ones and man are they ugly
Although i've never been in your position, i would stick a small squad (5-6) of scorpions in a WS. Howling banshees are way too temperamental, and harlies are out of the question.
Care to explain your choice?
I'm interested in why people would make the choice as much as what they would choose, so that I can see how people use them, and why.
I'm curious as to why as well. Scorpions won't be able to do anything the Seer council can't already do, better. Plus, they're slow as tears. The banshees give the army some power weapons, and with doom they'll wound even T4 just fine.
Sure thing. Well i think banshees should be doing their own thing, and being led by a farseers on foot. If you charged Banshees in to help wipe out a tarpit, you'd probably find your enemy directing his powerfist attacks against your farseer and his basic attacks against your banshees, bcus they are considerably weaker than warlocks on bikes. Whatever the case maybe though, you'll sure as hell smash just about any unit to dust, but than that leaves the poorly armored HB's to get shot up (not cool).
With scorpions however, your enemy will be questioning whether he should direct his base attacks against the scorps or the locks. The exarch also has a claw that can really dish out some damage to tyranid warriors, SM command squads ect, which is something a bike council would probably find difficult to kill by themselves.
I'm not against using banshees, i just think scorpions are better
Well, the question was that he was going to mount them up to support the seer council on jet bikes. The situations you're mentioning wouldn't ever occur with what the OP is suggesting. If you're only on foot, and you don't have jetbikes, and etc, yes, you take Scorpions. But, if they're mounted up in a wave serpent, you take Bainshees.
i stand corrected. Like you said I think i was looking at the question the wrong way
i like shining spears. simply because they can react quicker to tarpitting - there's no wave serpant moving involved.
they can also have hit and run, which allows them to get in, whack whatever is tarpitting the council, and get out.
