Welcome to Librarium Online!
This might be obvious to most, but I just wanted clarification really. The 'all models in a Brood' wording is throwing me off. Is it possible to have a brood of warriors where, say, one has two boneswords, one has rending claws and another has a venom cannon?
Likewise, with two Tyrant Guards, is it possible to just give one of them a lash whip and leave the other with his scything talons?
I know that for the Carnifex build, it specifies that all models must be equipped the same, but it doesn't say this for anything else - does this mean they can mix and match?
Seems confusing, what's the general consensus out there?
I think the general consensus is that you have to equip all models the same. Many people think that it's a way for GW to get around all the wound allocation shenanigans, which i agree with. I'm just kind of waiting for GW to pass this on to Daemons and Orks.
But yeah, I guess you could say that it's debatable if it's meant to be like that or not, since the carnifex specifically states that we can't mix the equipment, so the rest of our army should be able to. Though I'm quite sure we can't.
"I have seen you humans, trying to forge an Empire in the name of a corpse"
For warriors one in the brood may take a barbed strangler or a venom cannon. Only one. They rest all have to have the same weapons. So you have to give them all boneswords. Not just one.
And tyrant guard must be equipped identically.
The wording in the codex will say that "all units in the brood may take ____ for ___ pts. per model."
Similarly it will say "One unit in the brood may upgrade his ____ to a ____ for ____ pts."

WH 40k Armies (W/L/D):
Tyranid: 2250 Points of Awesome (5/4/1)
Necrons: 1000 Points (4/0/1)
I think the confusing part is the "may" in that sentence. Yes Tyranid Warrior A, B and C all mayexchange their scything talons for boneswords, it doesn't say that if A takes a pair then B and C must also take them as well. That isn't to say I don't agree that it you should use the interpretation that means you must equip each Warrior the same, just that I can see how the confusion may arise.

Fair enough - It was only really to save points on the Guard, but I thought it would be cool to have 6 shrikes - 2 with pairs of boneswords, 2 with lash whip & Boneswords & 2 with two sets of talons - then send them off hunting that farseer and his warlocks.
But it seems fair that you can't do that - so it'll be 6 shrikes all with pairs of boneswords. Doesn't work out all that bad really, just 10 points more expensive. (and I think realistically that I could just have 5 in the unit, and protect them with some sky-slashers)
Also, if you could - than according to that wording you could arm termagants in the one brood differently.
I bulked at the word "may" for a bit too. However the word "All" takes precedence. So all of them may take or none. Not "some".
What's retarded is the box doesn't COME with Boneswords or Lashwhips. Which we're allowed to take, but they're non-existent. Where can I make a stink about this to get GW to release a bits pack with the Swords and whips.
Yeah - and no stranglewebs or spike rifles for the termagants
There's a few different ways to make boneswords - some people like just cutting & reversing the grip on scything talons, but for me it just doesn't cut it. The next best thing is plasticard - and if you don't feel up to it then there's a few good people on ebay who have, and the results aren't half bad. As for whips, go to hoard o bits on ebay and have a look at the whips for skaven packmasters. Cut them onto a Tyranid arm and it should be just right.
