Welcome to Librarium Online!
I'm pretty new to T'au, and have been posting lists different places online for review, and the one major critique most people seem to have is that I don't have enough anti-armor. I usually take 1 hammerhead at 1000, 2 at 1500, and anything above that I will tack on a BS unit or another hammerhead. I'm a decent player I'd say (I win more than half my games consistantly), but in the games I lose I can't quite pinpoint my problems. Is it because I really do have to little anti-tank fire power? So my question to you is, how many hammerheads/broadsides do you usually take at different points limits? Or do you prefer other anti-tank units such as helios or SRMD or just Seekers on vehicles or something else?
For 1500 point games I take 4 total. 2 Hammerheads with railguns, and 2 XV88's with twin railguns. 1000 points I normally drop a hammerhead if needed.
I am an Indestructible master of War.
4 railguns is the minimum, IMHO. And you'll want at least one team of 2 broadsides to prevent hits on your railgun platforms from preventing you from shooting (which happens to vehicles -- e.g., hammerheads -- regularly). Broadsides are also more accurate than hammerheads (75% chance to hit vs 67% chance to hit). Mixing broadsides with your hammerheads gives you flexibility and redundancy, and prevents the enemy from easily stopping your anti-armour firepower.
ninjabackhand: point and click, again, really? even after i give you an military term "shock tactic" you still call it point and click.
RIP Warhammer 40,000: 21 Sep 1998 - 24 May 2014
in a 1250 point game i took -
1 Hammerheads with railguns, and 2 seperate XV88's with twin railguns
I found this enough as i also had 7 suites to jump around
Tau: 6K - W17-D3-L4, Orks: 4K - W9-D0-L2, SM: 7K - W7-D3-L4,CSM: 4K W5-D1-L1, Nids: 3.2K W3-D0-L2
Apoc games (mixture of armies used): W5-D0-L1
IMO a good rule of thumb is to have one railgun per every 500 points. My lists usually have even more. I use 4 at 1500, 5 at 2000, and 7 at 2500.

Slightly off topic, and it has been mentioned before, but Broadsides are slightly more reliable, as they cannot suffer from "Crew shaken of stunned" results, and are fairly hard to take out of the game. Furthermore, for the price of an upgraded Hammerhead = 2x XV88's. By all means don't pass up the chance to bring a Hammerhead - Just something to consider.
"Show 'em the gunline, Boss"
this varies greatly but id recommend 3 to 5 of them.
