I just finished my 6-man warrior squad with 5 death spitters and a venom cannon/barbed strangler, all with scything talons. now i have 5 warriors with dual boneswords and i am not sure how to equip them. Do i go all cc with scything talons for more hits in close combat or rending claws (is that even legal? don't have my codex right now) to be able to penetrate armour or do i give them ranged weapons (probably devourers as they are already pretty pricey and maybe a barbed strangler to be able to allocate wounds better)?
Thank you for your opinions
Well the devourers are nice, and will probably get you more wounds overall.
and re-rolling ones is a bit...meh.
I would still, however try to cough up the points for toxic sacs, before you consider adding a special weapon.
i thought that rerolls on ones was crappy too, but then I realised that for the little cost that talons have you get to reroll 1/3 of your missed attacks, or even 1/2 (if you hit on 3+). So it ain't that bad after all!
- Just love that maki! -
Or, seeing as how a devourer is an assault weapon they can shoot off 3 shots each before they assault....
Also, the scything talons are free.
Im not saying that they are crappy, its just that there are better options.
and if your hitting on a 3+, then you usually get...maybe...1 re-roll per model.... which isnt always a hit anyway...
What I have been leaning towards is total CC or a much less expensive shooty brood. The CC warriors have dual boneswords, scything talons, and adrenal glands. The much less expensive shooty warriors have deathspitters and scything talons. If possible, the latter brood gets a tyranid prime to add BS to the unit and be it's CC specialist.
Note: I am not usually taking a barbed strangler in the shooty brood. A big reason for that is my usual opponents being MEQ and/or armor.

I think the devourers will be the most useful thing to have there. They won't cost anything either and be handy if you deploy with a Mycetic spore becsue you'll get to shoot. I think that toxin sacs would be very helpful as well.
