Sick of having my Kroot mercenary army in my closet getting moldy, I skimmed through the available armies and thought I'd convert it using the Ork army rules.
Fact is all ork armies I've seen up to now were mechanised-rush armies and I can't really see me fielding any kind of vehicle with my kroot, so I was wondering if a slogger army was viable: what do you guys think?
Any advice on what I should put in it and how should I convert the models?
- Just love that maki! -
I think you can do this, though it will be tough.
The only thing the Kroot have are basic Kroot with rifles, Shapers, Hounds and Krootox. There are some other Forge World creatures I think, but we'll avoid those for now.
It would be helpful if you could post what you have, by the way.
Kroot are Shoota boyz. That part is easy.
Honestly I'm at a loss with what to do with the rest. To answer your question, YES foot slogging Orks are viable (and very scary to face). You're problem will be variety. (and a lack of PKs)
Krorks would be a fun army. Foot is ok, not very viable but then Orks aren't competitive as a general rule so it's no biggie.
Easiest thing you could do is a shooty Kan wall type dealy.
KFF or SAG Meks, Wyrdboyz (psyker shapers)
Lootas (non-mounted Kroot rifles, salvaged/looted tech)
Shootas (kroot, Nob = Shaper)
Grots (hounds, little critters)
You'll have problems with armor, particular anything AV13 and above or just armor en masse, as well as crowding issues, but that's Orks for you. Bikers are better in a shooty list, but those might be trickier to do.
Have you considered IG? With Straken you can do a foot army quite well, shootier and still very capabler in HtH.
Here is a Kroot Nob biker army from Baltimore GT 2008: DakkaDakka - Gallery - Orks - Army, Display, Grand Tournament, Kroot, Tau, Warhammer 40,000
I think that the conversions that people do to put Kroot into Tau battlesuits would work well for you. Killa Kans are now plastic so you can easily convert to have kroot peeking out. Give Kroot bigger Shoota type guns, convert powerclaws (a small square of something around the hand and 3 knife blades sticking out is the simplest way), and put kroot on Warbuggies for Rokkit Buggies. Bam. Kan wall here we come. The Kroot don't have to be technelogically defficient either. I could see them hanging out of a looted tank and yelling WAAAAAAGH!
Cant be a great deal of help hear just wanted to say 2 things
1 love the idea and hope you will post pics.
2. Orks are competitive no matter what ===ME=== says and the only resion you dont see them offten in torys is cause it takes to long to move 120 models
Ugh, we've been over this before.
Orks are great for friendly games, Apoc, comped events, and slaying noobs. Against a good, competitive army they don't stack up. They can't handle armor in large quantities (or anything over AV13), fold to dedicated assault troops (thank you No Retreat!), have weak transports (open-topped FTL), and have to either rely on ridiculously expensive deathstars (Nobs of any stripe, Ghaz, both are which are easy to deal with and hobble your army) or go full gunline (nothing higher than S8, mech laughs).
Don't bring up Green Tide. Foot it fine so long as being competitive isn't a big priority for you.
Sorry ME, but you're wrong.
I think the winner of the past two 40K League tournies at SELWG had foot slogging Orks. In fact, he's undefeated.
Yeah a Foot sloggin army works. You need to play it right and then you will just kick arse. 28 Foot Sloggin Ork games with 25 wins. A few games I was out classed, but I was able to out smart and out knife him. I wnl a lot of my games with any 4 out of 5 of my armies. I'm just having problems with my Tau.
I am an Indestructible master of War.
Orks excel at noobslaying and punishing poorly put together or unchanged 4th edition armies. Against a good 5th edition army, they are severely handicapped, as noted above.
This debate never goes anywhere, like arguing to a wall, so I'll just finish it here.
acutully you about the only person i have talked to that seems to think we are so uncompetitve and from what i have seen and experienced we are quite the opposite our AP is not bad now that the deff rolla got FAQ only newbs use nobz as a death star unit they are a great number of good builds that arnt nob bikers. Im sorry it just seems that your opinion is not baised on any kind of facts it is just baised on your opinion i know for one i have played so hard armys with my orks and come out ontop with litlle work Death wing Wolf wing nob bikers guared gun lines and chimera spam so im find ing hard to think we are a bottom of the barrel army.
