I plan on running 2 Piranhas in my 1000 point list and 1 squad of Pathfinders. I'm torn, though, on whether to run the Piranhas as a squad or as two separate units. Obviously as single units I have more flexibility on how I move and shoot with them, but they also are a possible 4 killpoints. In a squad, I'm more limited in movement, but they are only 2 killpoints. The other disadvantage to the squad is they have a 4/6 chance of being destroyed, as opposed to only a 3/6 chance if separate.
Any thoughts or experiences on how to run them?

If you have open FA slots to use, run your piranhas separately. Forces your opponent to split fire to drop them both and gives you more flexibility in their use.
The reason you run multiple piranhas together is because you are out of FA slots and you want to increase the table footprint of the unit.
ninjabackhand: point and click, again, really? even after i give you an military term "shock tactic" you still call it point and click.

The only reason I combine mine is to make room for my Vespid.

The "A Smart Player Will..." theory is a complete paradox. If we make an assumption that everything we do is outsmarted, then theoretically we can never win.
I prefer to run mine in squadrons of two because they can be spread 4 inches apart, and then the enemy can't go between them. This way they are able to almost always present front armour by pointing in different directions. Then there's also the matter of Kill Points.

The best way for Tau to win in a Kill Point mission is to table the opponent. Even if this is impossible, Tau definitely need thier heavy hitters protected (ie - XV8, XV88, Railheads). Single Piranhas excel at protecting though blocking. So I say run single Piranhas.
Go separate, you'll hassle the hell out of the opponent in a 1000pt game.
