Welcome to Librarium Online!
Sorry for spamming the forum this morning, so many questions....
Thinking of getting some Tau soon-ish, but looking around the multitude of war-games/40k forums online, I've just come across some speculation that Tau will be getting a re-release in the Summer.
Now, in my short time looking on such forums, it's fairly apparent that rumours and speculation abound, and are usually nothing more than wishful thinking and false hope, so I take any of it with the required sodium chloride overdose.
However, before I offload my hard earned credits on a battleforce or two and spam the crisis suit like it's going out of fashion, can anyone here offer any validity or thoughts on these rumours.
Don't want to start a wishlist thread, or any of that nonsense, just want to know whether to be patient for a bit longer.
I'm assuming you're talking about remodels. In that case I doubt that units such as Fire Warriors, Kroot, Stealths and vehicles will get a remodel.
Don't know about crisis, I'd say they might just add parts to the sprues and allow for some variation (Helmets poses etc). Maybe they'll release some ForgeWorld battlesuit models.
Most people convert their battlesuits in one way or another anyway, so go ahead and buy some crisis and get creative.
The broadside needs a remodel in more ways than I could care to explain. Pathfinders will probably go plastic (a lot of people are already converting them from FWs anyway).
Don't really care for rumors, the only thing I've seen so far to support any Tau advance would be the O'shovah and plastic pathfinder pics. REALISTICALLY they won't touch them for a good year or two.
Ok, cheers for this - sounds like a fairly safe bet to get some models to assemble/paint in the near future.
Was thinking of a couple of battleforces and 5 or so extra crisis suits?
Convert 6 PFs from the FW, have 2 x 9 FW units, 2 x 10 (12?) kroot, 7 x crisis (1 commander, and 6 elite) and a unit of 6 XV25s (I know they aren't popular tactically, but just love the models so much)
By the time they're all painted etc, will hopefully get some broads and HHs to provide heavy support.
I'm thinking that in smallish games, the crisis suit systems should be enough to provide anti-mech? Maybe that's rubbish, but money restrictions have to enter into the equation somewhere.
Does that sound a reasonable way to start?
That sounds like a perfectly reasonable way to start. Even if the codex does hit this year, it won't be until late summer at the earliest, so you have plenty of time. Plus I would highly doubt that the best unit in the codex (Crisis Suits) would become useless in the next codex, so you're pretty safe there too.
A couple Battleforces and a bunch of extra Crisis Suits is the way I started my army, and it works great. I would suggest picking up 1-2 Broadsides, Piranhas or a Hammerhead just so you have some kind of anti-heavy tank power. Crisis Suits with Missile Pods work great against Rhinos, but can't touch a Land Raider.
I think I'll prob have to save for the anti-tank then, just concentrate on getting the paint scheme/modelling done first - not worry about the battlefield ops side of things for a month or two.
Really want to paint up a rogue tau faction, a bit darker, less clean than the GW stuff - splinter group fluff, questioning the "greater good" and being kicked out for doing so. Might include some salvaged weapons etc, and paint them a bit rough and battle damaged.
Ronin Tau ftw :-)
i doubt its coming anywhere this year. Ive heard summer of next year but you never know.
There are three kinds of people in this world, those who can count and those who cannot.
This was the post I saw that got me thinking in the first place, just for posterity (should have linked this up at the top, sorry):
Reliable source, Release schedule! (source threads title, not my words)
Not linking this here because I think any of it is true at all, just so you know where I got the idea from. (The forum is called Tau Online, so I suppose there is some inherent bias there!)
I'm too old to get this excited about plastic space suits, or so I keep telling myself

FWIW, my source says GKs are the army on release after Blood Angels, and that the Stormraven featured in the new BA codex will actually be released with the GK codex.
[shrug] Hard to know with these rumours and sources. But that's where my money is at the moment.
ninjabackhand: point and click, again, really? even after i give you an military term "shock tactic" you still call it point and click.

I had heard similar rumblings on Warseer that Tau would be after BA, but who knows.
Either way, I still think that any army made with the current codex will still be fairly viable with the new codex. Just make sure to magnetize or somehow attach the weapons in such a way that they can be swapped around if need be.
Well so far, they've done Space Marines (which you know would happen first, it does with every edition), Imperial Guard, Space Wolves, and Blood Angels. So besides Space Marines and to an extent Blood Angels (even though their 4th ed list was just a publication in White Dwarf), they've been redoing all the 3rd ed. codices. So I think they're going to plan on continuing this, updating all of the current third edition codices (Dark Eldar, Necron, Daemon Hunters, and Witch Hunters) before moving on to the fourth edition codices, assuming they get to them at all before the release of 6th edition. If they combine the daemonhunter and witch hunter codices, that means three codex releases before they start thinking about tau, which really isn't that bad. Though personally, I'm not getting too worked up about wanting a new tau code anytime soon. My Tau army is kicking butt just the way it is.
