Hey there. I've been running my 3 Fire Prism Mech list for the last while and always take 2 Doomseers for fluff reasons (twin sisters) and for the reliability that at least something will be Doomed. I'm playing a tourney in 2 weeks and having my wisdom teeth pulled in between so I'm going to get to play test anything new. I was wondering if anyone used a Guideseer with their Fire Prisms.
Here is what I'm thinking: I always have 2 Fire Prisms link a shot and then the third is shaken, running away from stuff, or it takes a shot and hopes for the best on scatter. I've been thinking of running the third Prism close to the Guideseer's Serpent and then having both Prism shots be twin-linked. At 1/3 chance of a direct hit with rerolls the tamplates get pretty damn accurate.
Is the cost of this tactic really worth it though? Once I've lost a Prism the Guide-seer is less useful and eventually she's going to have other things to worry about anyway. I love having Doom twice because it keeps me from having to prioritise too much when deciding what to hit next. Also, Guide is fairly short ranged and two tanks having to move together could get awkward I guess.
My list is posted in the lists section if anyone is curious.
I have played around with multiple guides and falcons (the farseer can be inside removing the need of having two tanks near each other ) but not with prisms. The blast template and a decent BS mean they generally will hit something and I rarely get to use all three for any round besides the first so the guide seer would have the chance of being more or less wasted for multiple rounds. If you use alot of DAs you could guide them I guess but I go for storms and flamers more often.
Thanks for your thoughts nakaruru, I now think this is probably a bad idea as well. Once the Prisms start falling all I can basicly do is Guide the Dire Avengers in the Serpent and that's just overkill. I think I'm going to take Fortune on the second Farseer and make this the one with Runes of Warding. Fortuned Serpents moving fast are damn hard to take down and I intend to have troops around turn 5-7 for grabs.
I vote no. Use the 2nd farseer for better things.
