Welcome to Librarium Online!
No way, CWE all the way!
Absolutely, I need a change!
So as most of you might be aware there is a strong feeling the Dark Eldar codex will be the next release, this thread isn't to argue this point, present your opinion on whats going to be released or rubbish this claim.
It is to see whether you'll be tempted to play Dark Eldar if the codex is more fitting to your playstyle or the models are impressive enough?
I know I'm pretty unimpressed with Eldar at the moment, I always loved their CC specialists and while we do have good transports, we don't have any that deliver CC specialists in a manner which allows an army to be more CC based than shooty.Generally anything a CC squad can do, a shooting squad can do better, cheaper or with far less risk.
Competitively its also far more of a strategic army, you'll spend as much thought on movement as on trying to do any damage, because while we are extremely mobile we can't take a hit, and often can't afford to give one either.
Last turn objective grabs, staying one kill point ahead, its rather boring to me.
Just my opinion, but I prefer the Biel Tan approach, strike with strength and precision and destroy your enemy utterly (yes it incorporates all the movement etc but its much more in your face).
Personally I don't like the whole 'evil' thing about Dark Eldar, thats why I originally chose Eldar, I like the race that isn't evil, but isn't really good, it looks after itself and can choose whether to be malicious or friendly, generous or deadly.
This aside I really would like a change, and am considering putting money aside to buy some Dark Eldar when they are released, to see how their playstyle pans out, I'm guessing that with all their open topped transports they may have a more viable combat orientated list, and they would struggle to have more boring lists than Eldar do at the moment (unless you want to play something totally fluffy and generally fail) Again this is just my opinion.
Whats everyone else thinking? Aside from a miracle its unlikely the Eldar codex will see any changes soon, and unless our new spearhead skimmer is something amazing and gamebreaking allowing a huge new variety of lists which can be used in normal games via a WD/PDF release then I can't see any light at the end of the tunnel.
Will you be sticking with your Space Elves and maybe taking a look at the dark side just to see how they play (especially if their models are amazing)?Again this isn't a thread to argue about if or when the DE will be released.
I think DE would be a fun change - I have 3 transports, and a bunch of warriors. I could pick up some of their best looking models when they are released, proxy some stuff(banshees=wyches, warlock=haemon) and have a usable small army. I hope they get a solitare.
I will probably just play the Eldar still since I have 4 armies already. However im still not convinced that Dark Eldar are next, although I would really like them too. However, eldar is supposedly getting some new plastic kits with the release of spear head in June. Also rumors of a plastic super heavy. Although all speculation on that. If the models are just awesome and there are some good deal somewhere I would consider it. I enjoy the dark eldar tactics as of now.
But eldar still is relatively "evil". They are by no means good guys. Just dont appear as evil as Dark eldar, i believe the Dark eldar use the slaves they capture to give to slaanesh so he doesnt take them instead. its just survival i believe. I could be wrong though.
Eldar -APOC- 6500 Points
Chaos Daemons -Fate Crusher- 3500 Points
Grey knights - 1000 Points
Not unless DE receive a radical overhaul of fluff. I've got enough on my hands with Eldar and IG. Dark Eldar are jerks, and I can't stand playing an army like that.
The only army I'd consider dropping Eldar completely for, is Exodite Eldar.
I'd play that as my exclusive army. Exodites are awesome, I just wish there was more about them.
I have to admit if I did chose to play them I would certainly be doing so by formulating my own fluff but using their own rules to portray a exodite society. Personally love the whole exodite vibe, and really wish they would release a proper craftworld/exodite eldar codex more like the old craftworld codex. This wishlisting aside.....
The Solitaire is certainly an interesting comment, since apparently as playing the great enemy in the harlequin plays he is the representative in a way of that god, and if DE really are going deeper into the whole slaanesh worshippers thing then its certainly possible they will get the Solitaire. But as you said we don't really know if thats whats going on.
I had an original harlequin solitaire however, back in the days when he was a beast, and by a beast I mean he munched on babies and stole childrens lollipops in a metaphorical combat sense.
My first thought when I heard DE might get harlequins was, OMG open topped transports full of harlequins! /drool
Off main topic: Eldar getting the Super Heavy Scorpion would be for Apocalypse play only, right? Or for Spearhead expansion games, but not for regular 40k games? I'm a bit confused though I know the Nightspinner is in the Imperial Armoury.
I've just been waiting for DE to get an updated codex. Was gonna start with them when I started 8 months ago, but they seemed outdated.
I'm personally hoping whatever they add will be similar to the new Guard tanks, playable in normal games albeit through a PDF or WD release, and then added to the next codex.
It would make better sense through a sales viewpoint but who knows.
I have been considering DE for a while but waiting for the codex too.
Giving DEldar assault ramps of some variety would go a long way to supporting their super-aggressive playstyle. You can't honestly tell me only Orks and Humans have the intelligence for it.
Dark eldar have open topped vehicles so they can assault from them anyway. now why the eldar can't figure out an assault vehicle is beyond me but I think it has to do with game balance, as we have some very powrful assault units if we can get them into assault The idea of moving 12 dropping a council fleeting d6 then charging 6 is rather fun though. As for me I already play Dark Eldar some so when/if they get redone it will be matter of picking up a few of the new models and messing around with new army builds. But I will always come back to my Ulthwe roots.
I will most likely stick with my Eldar. Though I hope they do a major revamp of the DE models. I think the super spiky armor and helmet is just plain ridiculous and stupid looking. The incubi are super cool looking on the other hand.
