First of all I've been out of things for a bit, so I'm not too up to speed on the new Codexes from Tyranids on.
Anyway my question is if people feel it's a bad idea to blend skimmers in a mech list.
With an all serpent force Str4/5 weapons have nothing to do until some Eldar disembark, S6 weapons aren't so impressive, and S10/melta/etc weapons just aren't getting the usual bang for the buck they're used to.
However if you blend in some flacons, prisms, and vypers suddenly the low strength weapons have valid targets and the more powerful anti vehicle weapons have something they can mess up easier.
Obviously you eventually fill up your force organization slots.
However at lower point totals where you could add more serpents would you advise doing so instead of putting in some other target?
Eldar skimmers are among the best in the game, and the new Tyranid codex was a lot less scary (like every codex nowadays, it seems), than everyone anticipated.
With that said, Wave Serpents are almost always a good choice, and you can theoretically win matches without ever disembarking your toys inside.
Besides, why limit your Serpents to S4/5 weapons? Pimp 'em out! Put EMLs on em (or any heavy weapon, I'm just an EML fanboy)
I don't see fielding falcons/prisms alongside Serpents as causing any real problem, or necessarily giving different weapons better targets to shoot. If your opponent sees the Serpent and it's cargo as a bigger threat, he's still going to shoot his lascannons and meltas at it even if there are Falcon/Prisms on the board to target. I think there's plenty of other reasons not to field Falcons and Prisms, but giving lascannons more targets is lower down the list. Also, don't underestimate meltas and lascannons just because you've got the Force Field.
lol at first i thought this was a painting thread... anyway i do have to say that ckerensky and archon charybdis have hit the nail on the head in this regard, giving the enemy more targets to shoot at only works against someone who is inexperianced and therefore does not really help serpent survivability.
