How do you play Necrons? What are their strong points/best assets. what are they good at? How SHOULD the be played best?
Well Necrons are THE most durable army out there. the basic unit is T4 +3 armor save and a further +4 save they can take before dropping. they seem to be directed towards being a shooty army and have some nice rules to most of their weapons. the army on the whole seems very slow except with the new jetbikes rules helped them out quite a bit and they have the ability to deep strike or teleport many units. Also C'tan (necron specail characters) are hated around the universe for being so powerful. Aside from this Necrons seem to be a bit limited in diversity.
Heh, well, it entirely depends on which army I'm playing against. But in general, I play my Necrons in a rather balanced way, surprisingly O_o
However, a few basic guidelines:
-Necrons are generally more shooty than close-combat oriented. To give a sense of how much, I'd say most Necron armies are designed to be 65% Shooty and 35% Hand-to-hand, give or take 15%, if that at all helps. At least that's how it is in my army.
-Against Space Marines I have my most balanced lists, but in EVERY list I always take 6 Heavy Destroyers, and 4-5 regular destroyers. These are the Necrons biggest guns and are always my favorites no matter who I play against.
-That being said, I also often take a full squad of scarabs (given the new rules) and attempt to couple that with a squad of flayed ones and perhaps some Tomb Spyders if I'm feeling saucy. This is my poor attempt to balance my army, but one that I feel often works. Heh. At any rate, there ya go.
So far I dont have much experience with them and I only have about 500pts worth. Anyways, I have just sat back with my warriors and unloaded on squads while sending some wraiths and scarab swarms up to keep them busy. I blew up my friends Chaos Land Raider last night. He really wasnt suppost to use it, but I let him use it anyways because he was being a little hoe about it. Then I killed it on my first turn with a barage of gauss flayer fire. BWAHAHAHAHAHA, oh the joys of Necrons.
