Looking at putting together two squads of Lootas at 10 orks in each unit, are their any benefits of having any meks or should i stick to just lootas?
Also, squads of Nobz, im going to be running these at 10 strong but what are the best options for equipment, should it be the majority of them clawz or have 5/5. 5 Claws and 5 choppas.
9-10 lootas is good. There's no reason to include meks unless you don't have enough loota models, and need to add meks w/big shootas to make up the difference.
10 nobz is a lot. My favorite setup is (regardless of whether they're in a dedicated transport or on bikes):
6-8 Nobz with 2-3 powerklaws, painboy, cybork bodies, waaaugh banner, bosspole, and 2-3 combi-skorchas (on nobz w/powerklaws)
Don't bother with big choppas, they're a waste of points. More than 3 powerklaws is overkill. I also wouldn't give them 'eavy armor, as cybork is good enough, and far more necessary. If you're going to shell out 5 points each for 'eavy armor, than you might as well give them bikes.
Finally, never put them on foot. They need some sort of transport. A trukk with a ram is good, although a battlewagon with grot riggers, big shoota, deffrolla, and perhaps armor plates as well, is better. Bikes are great, but make them easier to shoot, so it's up to you.
"Any job worth doing, is worth doing with a powerklaw."
Good luck with the lootas. I think they suck....but it's probably because boyz mobs are so much better!
As for Nobz, I run a full mob of 10 with three PKs, one Big Choppa, 5 choppas and a painboy. They have 'Eavy Armor, a boss pole and Waaagh! banner. They also ride in a trukk with the warboss and all they ever do is kill everything and win the game. Other than that, they suck.
I would give them Cybork saves, but haven't modeled it so won't use it.
Lootas work best as a 5 ork squad or 15. LD is their Achille's heel. At 5 orks, 2 dead will force a ld check. At 10 - 3 orks force a ld test. At 15 - 4 dead force ld. At ld 7 you can't count on them making it - so limit your losses if they do fail ld. 2 squads of 5 each allow you to shoot at 2 different targets, increase their survivability, and force you opponet to take out 2 units instead of 1. I have never used meks with my lootas - the deff gun is better than the mek's guns.
Nobz are great but make sure to kit them out differently to take advantage of would allocation. 3-4 pk's are plenty in the squad and I've had good luck with big choppas. They must be in a transport! Battlewagon is best but a trukk will work as long as you have other trukks to run a screen for it.
I would say keep 10 Nob Models all with different wargear around for options, but you aren't going to want all of them unless it's huge points game. I have 5 with special weapons and 5 with just Sluggas and Choppas and I use them differently depending on who I'm facing, but always in groups of 5-8. Generally I would say you either want a small number with more PKs, or a larger number with less PKs, to keep them from getting way too expensive. I run mine with 2 PKs, a Kombi-skorcha, Waaagh! banner and either 2 Big Choppas if its a T4 enemy or 3 Sluggas and Choppas if its a T3 enemy.
And yes, they need some sort of transport if the games are larger than, like, 500 Points.
Also they make a great, killy retinue for a Warboss, and they can get the Warboss in they're trukk or w/e!
As for lootas, I use 2 meks in my squad of 10. I'd like to get 5 more lootas for a total of 13 lootas 2 meks. I actually like having the BSers, because it keeps the Loota's Volume of Fire up even if they roll 1's for the shots fired. Plus it sort of give the enemy a reason to stay away, since there is a slight deadzone between 37" and 48" where they will be taking less fire if they stay away... although all the games I've played the Big Shootas are always in range.
And always keep them in cover. The LD is pretty shitty and cover is the best way to add to they're survivability. Or better yet, get them in a building and they will be golden. (Although you'll more than likely lose out on some shots due to fire points. Still, whenever I get mine in buildings, my opponent always gets worried since he knows they are alot harder to kill that way even if they do less Dmg. Never underestimate psychological warfare in 40K)
I am verbose. Sorry.
