Welcome to Librarium Online!
I would like some help from someone who has experience with the standard Kannons from GW. I want a Big Gunz line 3 kannons strong, but between my distaste for Metal Models and their over priced-ness, I do not plan on purchasing the GW Ork Kannons. After buying a battle wagon and upgrade sprue, just for the Deff Rolla, I realized the Killkannon would make a good Big Gun piece... then noticed that if I clip off the wires the spare Zzap Gun looks pretty kannon-y too. One E-bay search later and I found a Forge World Ork Kannon on the cheap. Now I have some spare Wheel Bitz and another Gun Shield on the way and I realized I wanted to get some feedback on they're size VS the standard ones.
Here's the Zzap and Killkannon together. I like the fact that my kannons will be of varying size. Very Orky.
Here's a size comparison with the Kannon from the BW set and the Grots who are going be hanging out with the gunz.
I'm going to attach wheels and (For the Zzap and Kill Kannon) gunshields. The FW gun looks like it can either stand on it's own, or will go on a Termy base with a Bi-pod or something. Worse-case scenario: I'll get some treads and it will look like a Thunderfire Cannon.
Forge World - ORK KANNON
My main question is: How do these compare to the GW Kannons, as I've only ever seen them in the Blister Packs and it was awhile ago. Do you think I'll receive any flak for using a Zzap gun in there? And finally: Anyone know where to get those little grots holding Ammo and stuff from the Kannon packs for cheap?
Thanks! I'll probably post pics of the finished product if there's interest in it.

I say they'll look a lot better than the normal kannon models. That will do fine.
The only place I've seen ammo runts are the official model, directly sold through the GW website, but I think normal grots should do fine.
Personally, I just used normal grots and the guns from a single Imperial Guard weapons team. Ork models don't have to look fancy. The clunkier and stranger, the better. ^_^

Good to know. I just wanted to know if these will be grossly larger or significantly smaller than the GW ones, but they seem ABOUT the same. Luckily they are all made by GW so it's all similar. Think it would be weird to give these pieces a base? And keep the Gretchen separate. They might not stand up I realized, otherwise...
Ah, very interesting. I will have to adjust my plans, now that I know that the guns are SMALLER than the Stompas.
But srsly, that helps, thanks. I think these ones will be perfectly in line... size-wise. Not lined up straight of course, that wouldn't be orky at all.
the real catch we run into is the GW line and the background for the orks tend to be a contradiction. Orks have always been presented in the light that from the biggest stompas to the smallest of grot blastas no 2 pieces of equipment will be the same. However that being said it isn't practical to have 9 different kannon variants available to us a players. So a long as you don't get too silly with it there isn't really a "wrong' way to make your cannons.
just me two teeth about it.
One word of warning - if you're going to convert the zzzap gun into a kannon, make sure that you make it clear to your opponent that this is what you've done. Conversions are one thing, but you should be careful when using one piece of gear directly for another, especially from within the same army; you don't want your opponent thinking that you have a zzzap battery instead of a kannon battery. Maybe you should add some additional gubbins to make it look bigger and less zzzappy?
Edit: Another LO goer, TargetOnMyBack, showed me these pics of the same models that he made. This is the zzap gun turned into a cannon. I wish I could put it together as well as he did...
