Welcome to Librarium Online!
Howdy im back for more expert opinions.
I recently built up my ork army with advice form this forum . And now the moment of truth is approaching, i'm getting ready to play against my good friend's blood angel army. He is very fond of equipping his entire army with jump-packs which has been a nightmare for my tau. Now seeing how orks are very differnet from tau (duh ), i was wondering what works best in this match up.
Any advice would be great from
1. what army build works best against them
2. what units are great or terrible against the jump packed menace
3. what tactics are particularly useful
all advice and glory/horror stories are welcome, and appreciated, thanks
The only trouble I have with a mostly jump-pack Blood Angels army (is there any other type now?) is losing the initial charge with my boyz. That is very bad for us. Try to put one mob forward to absorb the charge. Then you can counter-charge with another mob.
As cossack said, the main disadvantage we have is losing the initial assault. However, the main advantage we have is numbers. Blood angels armies are very elite, and few in number. I'd bait them out with a sacrificial unit, and then counter-assault his forces with your own boyz. In order to pull this off, I'd use a mobile force with many units, and having a lot of shooting doesn't hurt either.
Above all, you need to keep him from fighting you unit to unit, because he'll slaughter you that way. You need to overwhelm him, both in the shooting phase and in the assault.

ok thanks. i was thinking of creating a wall of choppa boyz at the front of my army only 1 or 2 models thick to absorb the initial charge and set up for the counter charge. kinda like this

Does this sort of thing work effectivly or does it fall apart too much when "the defenders react" movement is taken?
well that was supossed to be a picture but i guess the formating got weird, either way one squad of meat in between me and the angels
You might want to try a unit or two of boys in trukks. Combining the ork WAAAAGH!! with a trukk boy charge gives you a potential 21-26" charge range. 12" from the trukk movement, 2" from the disembark, 1-6" from your fleet move, and a final 6" from your charge. When compared to the 18" charge of jump-pack infantry you should always get the charge.
Also if you want a "meat shield" in front of your boyz why not use grots? They are cheaper than da boyz and can still absorb a charge if there are enough of them.
side note... first post so yay!!
