PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE POST MEASUREMENTS! There aren't any pics of it I can find that clearly show how big it is in comparison to other models. Pics not needed, but would be appreciated.
I had the same feeling as you have, but probably more intense, since there wasn't just one flyer, but 6 ravens mhuahaha!
I probably did had the same feeling when I got my first razorwing, it was my first flyer and it was completely assembled. I won't lie, I started playing with it like a small kid, flying around the house. The model is just awesome, I only wish I had better rules.
ps: I also bought the apoc imperial armour, it was cheap anyway and it had the rules for the raven.
I won't post mesurements, but I do have a comparison picture
A reaver is just tiny ,a ravager is still pretty small compared to a raven, it's weird how it still has more guns lol.
If you want to see all my 6 ravens and 2 razorwings, you're forced to go check out my blog, I'm sure you will enjoy it anyway.
Ps: on battle effectiveness, a RAven Murder Squadron is worth it in big battles (5000 pts big or more)
Before that I would rely on the usual splinter raider forces and ravager formations.
Owning a single raven is probably to blame on curiousity, for a battle ,if you have a big army, would buy 3 at minimum to have a Raven Murder Squadron.
I wish i had some money...
Dark Eldar - Everyone stole Our 2+ Poisons
Rep for you, kharandhil. But the flyers really are lacking in firepower aren't they? 2 guns? Cmooooooonnnnnn!
Yeah, modelwise, it's a forgeworld; just amazing to look at and to paint.
Rulewise: you could say it sucks, in small battles I agree, in big apoc he's ok.
Amazingly ravens clear the sky:
VS Imperials: a thunderbolt is cheaper, but an imperial player rarely takes them and he'll prefer the bigger flyers, who are bad at shooting other flyers.
Basically ravens shoot down everyone. Even the splinter cannon is good enough 3+ then roll a 6+...4 shots!
Just like against other non eldar flyers you can use your short movement to get off range for one turn every 2 turns
Eldar flyers: they're more expensive than our flyer, basically you kill with your bigger numbers. Same problem with thunderbolt, no eldar player has many nightwings. All flyers have 10/10/10 armor, DLs and SCs are deadly.
Now I've tried with double lance, instead of twin linked and the difference is clear, faster killing, it's also better when all enemy flyers are gone. you rarey kill anything with a twin linked DL, besides, our BS is already more than good enough to not need a twin linked weapon.
my own 6 ravens clear the sky clean in most apoc games, 2 razorwings are just there for the fun.
Things that should be improved:
raven: 2 DLs instead of TLn splinter cannon should be more powerful, have you seen the size of it? It's bigger and a lot longer than a DL ,this SC makes our warrior SC look like a pistol. It should be cheaper as well something around 100-150 pts. Tail weapon should have possible upgrade to 1DL or to disintegrator.
In an extreme cases you could not touch the weapons and just make it 100 pts worth. Hopefully GW or forgeworld will correct this mistake one day.
So far you can can 2 ravager for the price of 1 raven, that's just BS. 1 TL DL vs 6 DLs, it makes no sence.
The razorwing should also be all separated, like a void dragon, and the horrofex should be a phoenix ML. This would make it a true bomber.
Sadly I don't think he'll ever get an update. Pointcost should be cheaper than a void dragon, around 200 pts sounds right.
I've tried ravens in normal battles, and it's just BS. One raven may be ok, but you know you're wasting points. It's like he wasn't there at all. 3 ravens you're just asking to be massacred (except your ravens lol)

Yo ho ho, my Raven came in the mail today. 2nd hand, slightly damaged, but WOW the detail on these Forgeworld models is fantastic.
