Welcome to Librarium Online!
Any one know when it's coming out? I need it so I can eat stuff good with my mawloc without my opponant crying "You can't do that!".
I don't think they announce FAQs, people just see them up on the site and report it. It's usually a few months after the Codex drops I think.
What about a Mawloc needs an FAQ?
how to resolve he's blast-thingy (?)
I fail to see what's confusing about that rule.
Eh its not the blast but more the deepstrike itself. As breifly as possible the problem is this.
When you start a deepstrike with a unit, the rules say 1 model must be placed in a valid location. In this case this means the mawloc, since its only a 1 model unit.
Valid locations cannot be within 1 inch of an enemy model, so obviously not on top of them.
So therefore you cannot "aim" for a misshap, by RAW you have to try for scatter to land on the target.
This is obviously stupid, but its a big oversight, and RAW its watertight, no ambiguity at all. (I belive i had a rule thread where this was discused at length, and trust me there were no holes.)
So basically RAI is overpoweringly convincing, but theres no way RAW to make it work. That why they need an FAQ for it, to make it viable in tournaments.
If youd like to check out the rules thread, i belive it was under "mawloc and accidentally killing your own models." It derailed badly and turned into the whole RAW vs RAI argument.
And Akruze, you have no idea how much my heart lept because i thought the FAQ was out But Prince is right, it will just turn up one day.

Your friendly neighbourhood gargantuan creature
GW articles, battle reports, GW staff etc and the spirit of the rule seem to say that it can deepstrike onto an enemy unit. However there is nothing definitive. Also a Mawloc can burrow during a game to repeat this process. It does not have to deepstrike onto the table though and it is not one of those units that always deepstrikes regardless of mission rules. After it burrows it automatically can deepstrike with no need to roll and see if it shows up again, you just roll for scatter as normal.
This means instead of rolling to see if it will show up in turn two or later we can deploy it on turn one and tell it to burrow on turn one. It then will be automatically avaliable on turn two with no need to roll and see if it show up. This is legal but again not in keeping with the spirit of the rules for it and it's fluff as an underground monster.
Also if a unit cannot be moved out of the way of an emerging Mawloc it is automatically destroyed and removed. This isn't a voluntary move and imobilised vehicles are still moved as if they are thrown aside. However it does run into trouble if the unit that can't move because of terrain or enemy units etc is a vehicle. Does the vehicle roll for damage or automatically explode? What happens to any troops being transported etc? What about immortal warrior?
Yeah I guess I don't see this as a problem. If somethings not resolved by common sense, than yeah it's a problem for me. Obviously you can put it under units, anyone who has played Warhammer for more than 5 minutes knows that GW screws up every single Codex. Any smart tournament organizer/judge would know this as well.
If someones opening the rulebook to say you can't do that because of X, they're a douche. I would avoid playing them, even after an FAQ came out because it's just pure stupidity and being afraid to lose.
I understand RAW says you can't, but common sense trumps all. Anyone arguing otherwise is probably scared of the model and looking for a way out instead of playing better.
But yeah, they need to release FAQs faster, or play test their books which they do not do. No one has ever shown me proof they play test anything up to the standard for a large gaming/miniature company.
The people I play against don't let me use it as it should be used, but have agreed with me that if it can't do that, than the mawloc sucks. Basically they are being stubborn because they don't want their fire warriors being eaten.Oh, and Heirodule... You're welcome. And Akruze, you have no idea how much my heart lept because i thought the FAQ was out
Don't forget the Dumb of Malantai.
Record: Win - Loss - Draw: Hive Fleet Pandora (New) 32-6-6 Space Wolf 7th Co. 52-11-6
Blood Angels 12-4-2 Daemonhunters 20-8-3
Imperial Guards 12-5-2 Daemons 8-3-2
I agree that it's incumbent on players to "not be D-bags".
And letting the Mawloc have his chomps definitely falls under that category.
However, this really is GW's fault. They're the ones that state in black and white right near the beginning of the BRB that the RAW and only the RAW is to be followed in their games.
And as already stated, the deep strike rules are airtight. Even with respect to the Mawloc.
This is a mess of GW's own negligence. They should be held accountable to fix it.
ninjabackhand: point and click, again, really? even after i give you an military term "shock tactic" you still call it point and click.
