Welcome to Librarium Online!
I always run an Autarch in my lists, as I have come to greatly enjoy the +1 to reserve rolls for those occasions where I don't get first turn against a true gun line list, which happens a lot to me actually.
The other night I was playing Frankenstein and built an Autarch from various bits. I used a Dire Avenger Body, a fusion gun arm, and hooked a mirror sword hand to the avenger exarch's shimmer shield arm, and made him a little GS cape, with a bit of metal on his back under the cape so I can magnetize a WJG after I get some spiders, I'm actually quite happy with him, and am looking forward to trying him out.
Normally I run Yriel, as the spear of twilight is a fantastic weapon, but I've been kind of dissapointed with it lately, and I don't get many opportunities to use his eye of wraith. So today I ran some different cost benefit analyses of Autarch varients against Marines, and the results are somewhat suprising.
I ran the comparison between 3 units attacking MEQs (t4, 3+ save)
Autarch- Fusion Gun, Power Sword, Mandiblasters [100 points] (Fusion Autarch)
Autarch- Power Sword, Mandiblasters [90 points] (Pistol Autarch)
Yriel [155 points]
I also included a Banshee, and a Banshee Exarch w/ executioner as reference points.
To figure out a damage per cost of the units, I calculated how many marines they would kill per point. (# attakcs)(odds to hit)(odds to wound)/(points of the unit). This gives me the number of marines each POINT will destroy, so the numbers are quite small.
The first test I ran I assumed that the Units were Charging and WITHOUT doom support.
Fusion Autarch- 0.0111 (1.111 dead marines)
Pistol Autarch - 0.0147 (1.333 dead marines)
Yriel - 0.0179 (2.777 dead marines)
Banshee - 0.0312 (0.5 dead marines)
Banshee Exarch- 0.0350 (1.333 dead marines)
The Second test assumed that the units were charging and HAD doom support from my farseer
Fusion Autarch- 0.0185 (1.852 dead marines)
Pistol Autarch- 0.0246 (2.222 dead marines)
Yriel - 0.0215 (3.333 dead marines)
Banshee - 0.052 (0.833 dead marines)
Banshee Exarch- 0.0467 (1.777 dead marines)
As you can see obviously the Banshees and the Exarch have significantly higher numbers. This is in part due to the special rules associated with the autarch, and partly because these numbers only calculate damage, and don't take into account the Autarch's 3 wounds or his invulnerable save. As such they aren't a fair comparision, I just put them down as a benchmark.
You'll also notice that these numbers don't take into account Yriel's Eye of Wraith, which is obviously a powerful weapon and would likely increase his numbers under both tests.
Because of the nature of the spear of twilight, it benefits very little from doom, however even with the spell in effect Yriel still outdamages the Fusion Gun Autarch in Melee, Although the 6 attacks on the charge from the pistol autarch at only 90 points is too much for Yriel to overcome without the eye.
Once again though, this test is only against Marines, and without the eye of wraith, as such Yriel's huge advantage against MC and Walkers in melee is not being considered at this time. Further Yriel can throw the spear of twilight, at s9 against enemy tanks, making him more similar to the fusion gun autarch in function, which he outclasses significantly in combat.
I just wanted to share what I found, after runnign the numbers. At anyrate, in conclusion, Yriel is far more consistant and cost effective than regular foot autarchs, However if you find yourself strapped for points, the other foot autarch varients are not significantly worse for cost than Yriel himself. Further considering the primary purpose of an autarch is the +1 to reserve rolls that he provides, saving 55 or 65 points may be more important than the extra damage and flexibility of targets that Yriel offers.
I hope somebody finds this comparison interesting, and it helps people make some decisions about if and how they want to run thier autarchs on foot.
how could the pistol autarch possibly kill more marines? o.O
edit: actually i guess it'd be even, cause you wouldn't round up to 2 dead unless it was 1.5 or more, so my bad.
i mean granted the fusion gun could miss, but with bs 6 or whatever he has, he isn't missing often.
or is it because you didn't take into account shooting before the charges?

Indeed, shooting before the charge will see yriel likely to kill another marine (hits on 2, wounds on 2, no armour save) where as the pistol will likely whiff. Even not counting that it's still very close points/kill between yriel and the pistol autarch, and yriel is high ws and higher initiative, not to mention eye of wrath which can kill an entire squad quite easily. If you're taking an autarch for something other than a cheap HQ, yriel is well worth it.
I'm also unsure about your fusiongun/pistol comparison. why is the fusion auratch perfrming worse in CC when it has the exact same weaponry except for teh additional fusion gun? He still retains his pistol, it's not replaced, so he doesnt lose an attack due to only 1 cc weapon. that's theonly reson i can instantly think of that might explain your difference in numbers.
you also haven't included the jetbike autarch which, while more costly than the variants you have proposed, should have a superior killing ratio on the charge. however, it may not work out as the most cost efficient as it it 140 points.
ok..now start the numbers for autarch versus Land raider/Vendetta/psyker battle squad in chimera/tac squad in rhino or razorback with and without fusion gun. that is cost effectivness...
Hight elf and Craftworld Eldar army project pics heavy: linky
my last 3 games yriel killed 11 marines, 9 IG and a chimera, 9 marines and a land speeder
Eye of wrath is awesome once killed 7 marines and made chapter master Vulkan run away like a scared mouse

can you drop the maths, my head is hurting besides the jetbike autarch will have a S6 laser lance to use on the charge, model also looks cool with attached reaper launcher. this combo would slaughter any marines
