Welcome to Librarium Online!
A buddy of mine is getting back into 40k but did a bit of a poor job on his ork army (which is from a previous edition). So we are planning to play in a campaign in a few weeks with a some other people and he needs to field a 500p, 1000p, 1250p and 1500p functional army. He doesn't need anything amazing since these are friendly game and we are letting him make some streches with his figures. He really only wants to spend another 50-100 dollars on this list. So the question is what should he look at buying and is there anything he should really look at changing. I'm just looking for some general advice not so much a list. He currently has the following:
warboss with pole choppa and shoota
10 ork 'ard boy shootas with big shoota
10 ork shootaz with rockkit with nob
20 ork boys with choopas and sluggas with nob with power claw
1 war trukk
5 bikers (we are letting him play this as nobs if he wants)
war buggy with twin-linked rokkits
He was thinking of getting some killa kan and some more boys. I had suggested to him to look at a battlewagon and maybe some gretchin or more boys or some mobs with powerclaws.
"I've seen you humans trying to forge an empire in the name of a corpse. I have seen your churches to the machine. Racially, your fear and superstitions are most gratifying. You will make excellent subjects"
the easiest 2 options i see are
a) a battlewagon and 2 trukks. for freeks horde. any spare money could be used to convert up a kff mek or pick up some aobr deffkoptas off black reach
b) aobr boys off ebay, and jump on a bits store to pick up some loota guns or some shootas to make a foot slogging horde. add in a box or 2 of grots to taste.,
I'm not the greatest listbuilder or strategist around but I can help a bit. You can never go wrong with more boyz really. If the boyz are going to walk around and not ride in a vehicle they should be at least 20 strong or more and they should always have a nob with both bosspole and powerklaw! They are both really, really usefull! So I'd suggest getting those Shoota mobz up to at least twenty. Two boxes of boyz will do that and they include nobz that can be outfitted with bosspoles and powerklaws.
Oh. And some gretchin are nice for objective grabbing.
nobz with pks
warboss with pks
there is no nob biker model so he can run them as nobz
they need pks
a battle force woouldnt be bad, bring them to 8 man biker squad and 20 more boys and a trunk
he could alot get some cheap toy trucks from walmart or a yard sale and use them as looted wagons.
Boys before Toys is your mantra as an ork player with that said we move on to the toys.
Here is a 500pt list I made up using the availible units you listed
Big Choppa,Cybork Body,Bosspole,Slugga,stikkbombs
'Ard Boys Mob-------------------------------171pts
Big Choppa,Slugga,'eavy armor,bosspole,stikkbombs
x10 'ard boys
Slugga/Choppa,'eavy armor, stikkbombs,x1 Bigshoota
Shoota Boy Mob-----------------------------170
x19 shoota boys
Warbikers Mob---------------------- 75pts
Stick the Warboss in with the 'Ardboys in the Trukk and follow the Warbikers across the board to get into assault range. then stick the shoota boys on an objective
The Warboss and 'ardboys along with the bikers are your hammer while the shootaboys are your anvil.
You should get for your next purchase a Heavy Support choice. I strongly suggest Big Guns(kannons, these you could easily scratch build from imperial guard heavy weapon teams) or Killa Kans
