    Synapse and fleeing

    Hi all,

Just one question, if a Tyranid with Instinctive Behaviour is within Synapse range of any creature, can they voluntarily flee? And if so, since I'm only new to 40K, when can you flee in the Assault Phase?

    Thanks for your help,
    The Warlord

no, if they are in synapse range they are fearless and fearless units never fall back. you fall back when you fail a morale test if you are outside synapse range

Heya warlord vimmik, judgeing by the nature of your post, im gonna guess your a fantasy player?

Well either way, Robute Guiliman had it right.

If you fight in the assault phase and cause less wounds than the opponent, you are forced to take a moral check. If you pass this, you fight on. If your in synapse range, you dont even need to take the check, just some more armour saves.

But basically, then only army that can volentarily flee are space marines, and even then you have to fight a round of CC first.

Oh OK. Thanks for the help, Roboute Guilliman and Heirodule, I really appreciate it. And yes, I am a fantasy player. But what do you mean when you say:
"...dont even need to take the check, just some more armour saves."
    Thanks again,
    The Warlord

The rule im refering to is no retreat. Have a look for it in the rulebook, but basically when you're fearless, instead of falling back you have to make armour saves, you take as many saves as how badly you lost combat, ie you take 3 more wounds, you take 3 saves

    Oh, OK, thanks again Heirodule.

I'll tell you what sucks - Tyranids do not get a bonus from having two close combat weapons, because apparently Cruddace says that it is already included in the attacks profile of the 'nid. Go see for yourself, page 33 of the (5th?) edition of the Tyranid codex.

Meh, we don't get extra attacks, we get re-rolls. Good enough for me.

Warlord Vrrmik: If you hate all the Tyranid rules, why do you want to play them? Maybe another 40K army would be more to your liking.
ninjabackhand: point and click, again, really? even after i give you an military term "shock tactic" you still call it point and click.

I don't hate them, and I don't hate all the rules. I was asking a question about synapse and fleeing, and I realized today that the attacks from the 2+ wielded weapons were already included in the attacks profile, so it is only fair to not get the bonus. I love the 'nids, and I'm sorry if I insulted the Hive Mind and its minions, all I was doing was clarifying something.

Also on the up side of things you should remember that Tyranids are practically unique in being able to combine special weapon effects. That's awesome for you.
