Welcome to Librarium Online!
Putting together my HQ and I'm at a loss at to how to make the arm weapons swappable. Magnets, pins, or do you just glue on what looks good and proxy?
Would love to hear your ideas.
I think your best bet for ease of swap is going to be magnets.
I put my commander together when I was still new at the game...glued on the AFP and the CIB...oops
Gonna buy a new one soon and magnetize all the weapons.
If you feel like getting fancy, you can put magnets in all the mounting stubs and then paint over them so you can move weapons around on the model without having shiny magnets sticking out from the paint.
My platform is RL, you'd be surprised at the quality of the graphics!
If you are on a poor man's budget, the nubs already modeled on the weapons can hold your equipment to the suit without glue or anything else. It is sort of a pain and might rub on your paint job sometimes, but it works and is by no means a bad option.
If you have the skill, time, and money, you can magnetize the weapons and hardpoints so you can more easily switch and swap. I have one Crisis Team fully magnetized, and the rest are all just using the nubs. Trying to magnetize can be desasterous if you are not careful so choose wisely xD
I would definately not glue any weapons to the models however.
Blue Tac? :p
I use magnets, got 50 for AU$5 from eBay and kitted up 6 battle suits and weapons.
I used to use the plastic nubs plus a tiny amount of blu-tac - which worked fine - but recently switched to magnets (Neodymium disc magnets 3x1.5mm from ebay - less than £2.50 inc postage).
You need to be really careful to make sure the polarity is consistent, so any weapon fits to any suit - I used a waterproof marker pen to mark the A side of each magnet before I used a scalpel to remove it from the stack. I added a old lithium button battery to the B end of the stack to make sure I always knew which end was which.
I superglued them so the A side fitted face down into a shallow (2mm) hole I drilled into the suit. The magnet is slightly recessed into the suit. I cut the nub off the weapon and then glued the A side face up. I also took the opportunity to mount the weapons below the suit fist - I think it looks much better than side mounting. Converting seven suits and all their weapons took an evening, so its not too laborious.
I just glue the weapons on, but then again, I have only fire knives and custom-fitted smart missile system... things for my Deathrain+ suits. (1 MP is a mp, 2 is twin linked, 4 is sms? I think not.)
