Welcome to Librarium Online!
So I was just reading a fluff thread about the C'tan and thought I'd see what everyone thought. There are 4 c'tan: the Deciever, the Nightbringer, the Dragon, and the Outsider. The Outsider is insane and wanted to eat everything and so was banished outside the galaxy by the other c'tan. Later a force comes into the galaxy who's goal is to eat everything and is thus named "The Great Devourer" This force is our Tyranids. They avoid Necron tomb worlds as there is no food there, and seem to know where they are.
So the discussion is, can our amazing bugs be created and controlled by an insane gluttonous "god"?
Also remember that the Tyranid psychic powers are NOT connected to the warp "in any fathomable way", and the c'tan are "alergic" to the warp.
By the way, GW has confirmed 4 c'tan.
So what do you all think?
This Tyranid C'tan theory has been brought up before in the fluff forum. The Tyranids are not the Outsider and they aren't controlled by it. The Outsider was driven mad by the fragments of other C'tan inside him. The laughing of the Eldar is what tricked him into doing it so he would destroy many other C'tan. His insanity forced him into exile or a dormant state. The Outsider wasn't driven off by the other C'tan.
Tyranids don't draw energy from the warp like other races but they still use psychic energy. Psychic energy can hurt and kill the C'tan. Tyranids can use huge amounts of psychic energy freely which would be a very serious threat to the C'tan. The Outsider could not create and control such as thing. The Hive mind is also larger than any one C'tan's mind.
Not all the C'tan were eaten by each other, many were killed by the psychic powers of lesser races. The current four are the only survivors. The Outsider's hunger a`nd that of the other C'tan is based around the taste of living things. The amount of energy from a star (C'tan natural food) in one hour will be much greater than one billion people every day for a century. With the C'tan it's about taste, power over others and their fear. With Tyranids it is about survival. The Tyranids eat everything not because of the C'tan reasons of greed, gluttony and ego but because of hunger and nothing else. Much of the reasons the C'tan eat people are reasons the Tyranids would never understand. The Tyranids eat whole galaxies the appetite and abilities of a C'tan are nothing on that scale. If the Outsider created the Tyranids they would eat him.
If there is any link between the C'tan and the Tyranids it is likely the Tyranids were created to destroy the C'tan and Necrons. When you have biological VS techological, biological always wins. The Old ones the C'tan fought, if some of them escaped they may of sent the Tyranids to clean the whole galaxy for them. Likely the Tyranids ate the Old ones who made them, the Old ones plans often backfired.
I favor the old ones theory. I just thought I'd see what anyone else thought after I discovored the old thread.
Though personally I find the idea that the Tyranids aren't in any way related to anything in our galaxy is better. I think it's more fun if they evolved themselves, it makes them more original. If they were created by something like the Old ones, even if they ate them it reduces the threat of the Tyranids because they seem to be made by something that is like us in some way. Even C'tan have egos like us (huge god-like, star eating egos to be exact) Tyranids have no ego which makes them more alien and fits in with the idea of extra-galactic invaders that are entirely removed from us.
