Welcome to Librarium Online!
Have people used buggies recently? I know the squadron changes hurt them, but I'm thinking of running two of them to supplement my two killa kans on Rokkit-launching, tank busting patrol. I don't have much fast attack, and my Deffkoptas are annoying (they fall apart whenever they are transported.) but I like having their twin linked rokkits.
Are they too fragile, though? I'd be running them with 1-2 other trukks, a BW, and a Deff Dread and/or a squad of 2 Killa kans, and some infantry. Would I be better off just turning the 2 old edition Trukks I have into a single Trukk? If I do run buggies, would it be better to run 1 squad of 2, or two squads of 1?
Sounds like a great idea.. if I didnt have so many koptas I would probably do the same thing. If you have the slots, run them in two seperate squads, so they can split their firepower and one squad of devestators cant kill both of them in one round. Also immobilizing counting as destroyed is a huge thorn in your side, that would mean a roll of a three on the damage chart would destroy you, or a 5 from a glancing hit
2000pts Orks 4-2-1
I run them every so often when i don't need to outflank to kill basilisks, which seems like never. They work just as well and can be more durable since plenty of weapons can't penetrate armor 10. They are fast and cheap too and with a kff they get the 4+ save instead of the 5+. All in all I think they're worth it. Also worth noting I think i made mine out of the exact trukks you're talking about. Are they the suspiciously small ones with the two boyz sharing a bench seat in front? Also I would run them in a squad of 2 but thats mainly because I use a lot of fast attack in my army and also for kill point reasons.

I always try to minimize kill points, but keep in mind an immobilized result == wrecked... i dunno.
I've never used the buggies, lmk what you decide / how it goes.. i'm interested.
KFF= Kustom Force Field
Yea, same ones. I think they're the right size for buggies, but they sit too low and are too short to match the current Trukks. I think I'm going to make them over the next few days, I have lots of Rokkits left from my Deff Dread kit, and the Gunners from my BattleWagon never get attached (They're magnatized) so I'm going to combine them.
I like the idea of converting the trukks into buggies! Thank you for that.
I have not run buggies since 4th ed, but I did like them at the time. It's a toss up though, with giving your opponent 2 kill points by having two squads, or one squad that can get wiped out all in one turn...
As far as buggies vs kopptas - it's 10 pts more for the koppta which is a jet bike, can scout and outflank, and I think they look cooler (that's a big one for me). I like the kopptas, but you would be saving 20pts by switching to 2 buggies.
Hey, if you got the models, have fun with the conversions, post some pics and see if you like them. Let us know how it goes!
Hosea 1:11 - Great will be the day of Jezreel.
Im working on them now. I'm going to have to wait until I can get the Ork Rokkits bitz pack to finish the 2nd though. My two rokkits from the Deff Dread pack looked too Bad-ass together as one TL-Rokkit to pass up. I'm in dire need of some Rokkits to finish my Scratchbuilt TankBustas anyway.
Edit: What do you guys think of one of them being... Cannon-like? I have a Deff Dread spare arm that sort of looks like a little cannon (Or direct-shot mortar) and I could put the Normal Trukk's wrecking ball either in or around it to look like a cannon ball. Is that getting too far away from a Rokkit, do you think?
Here's a sort of "Concept Photo" of what I mean. Nothing's glued on that one yet.
