HI, i have just started nidz and im fairly new to warhammer. i have bought the codex and a box of gaunts, i need an army list but i dont kow exactly how it all works.
i know they have points but are mutable and the gaunts have 2 different guns, are they different pt values? well neways i need to make an army list, but i dont know how, i want a decent 1000pt army.
also what should i do about painting them i was told to prime them in grey and i have a few but it looks hard to paint if i put them together first. i have left there legs off to make it easier. i really need help cause i have not alot of friends that play it or if they do they dont know whats going on either.
well thanks alot, and sorry about the stupid questions. one more thing whats a good colour scheme i look at the codex but i dont know lol thanks
First thing you're gonna find out about playing warhammer and working with 'nids is that learning to play, learning to paint well and anything else isn't an instant overnight process. It's gonna take time to learn rules and find out what painting methods work best for you. Welcome to the forums here and welcome to a great army you're going to enjoy playing. None of your questions were stupid either so don't worry about that, however my best advice is this. You mentioned you have a codex, read it over and over and over, and you'll want to get and start reading the new rule book as well. Next, if you have the chance watch other people play, its much easier learning by example than reading pages and pages of rules most times. There is a wealth of great posts here, read old posts, read your codex and see what things you want in your army list. Lots of people here play their bugs differently than others, see what bugs you like, what you don't and then you can ask more specific questions about them.
As far as painting goes there are just as many options and tricks you can learn. Several of the painting schemes in the codex are really awesome looking, but most beginner painters don't achieve those kind of results. Don't be frustrated by that, try a few colors you like and paint a couple, you'll get the hang of it and if you don't removing paint is really easy to do. Be sure and prime them, I use grey myself, and I've always found its easier to paint them after you put them together, that way you don't get superglue marks over your paint job.
Anyways, I was just really feeling helpful and long winded today. I spent saturday playing in tournaments at a local store and did very well with my Fleet. So sorry for the long note, just spreading the bug love around! Good luck with your army!
Do not meddle in the affairs of Tyranids, for you are crunchy and taste good with everything!
Check under ARMY LISTS. There are numerous lists out there. A lot of experienced players have put up some really good ones just find one that fits your playing style and your wallet and go to town. Welcome to the Hive Mind. :ph34r:There is a wealth of great posts here, read old posts, read your codex and see what things you want in your army list
--- Make sure You read the Codex through a few times... Also, don't forget to take a look into the Tyranid FAQ at Chapter Approved.Originally posted by NIDZZZZZZ@Sep 21 2004, 010

Once You think You have the rules pat, make a preliminary list and post it up for feedback in the Army Lists section. Modify accordingly, post again, and so on until You reach a list You feel comfortable playing with.
After this has been done, it's safe to start assembling the actual models!--- In reference to mutable genus, and ranged bioweapons having two separate costs: Take a look into the Notes: section beneath the Mutable tables for Your chosen creature, that should answer Your question.i know they have points but are mutable and the gaunts have 2 different guns, are they different pt values?--- Hey, if You don't ask, You stay stupid! Thus since asking questions makes You smarter, there's no such a thing as a stupid question! ^_^well thanks alot, and sorry about the stupid questions.
Scratch that... There is a specific sort of stupid question commonly encountered on the boards, and that would be asking for statlines and specific rules. These can all be found in the relevant Codex or rulebook, and as such they are not to be divulged. People are supposed to buy the rules of the game, hard to play without them, no?
Also, this means that when You make an army list, do not post statlines, rules or individual equipment/upgrade costs.

This includes all relevant information required if people are to appraise Your army list. Anything more is a possible copyright violation, which the mods will deal with.
Of course, it's perfectly legal to ask a page reference, or clarification on how a rule works if You're unsure.
