Well I finally found my old 3rd edition Tau army (played into begining of 4th) and wanting to play once more for the greater good.
But i picked up the new 5th codex (well late 4th codex maybe)
noticed some new guys on board new ships and new thing vespid.
Based on what I own what do you think I need to make my old army fit todays standards of playing
1 Commander Farsight
1 XV8 in a different colour scheme Commander
9 XV8 Crisis suit
6 XV16 Stealth Suits
13 Pathfinders /w 2 devilfish
6 Pathfinders /w rail rifles
3 XV88 Broadside suits
Countless gun drones and some converted to shield.
Thank you for pointing the way!
From a non-tau player perspective. Kroot (at least 2 squads of ten, preferrably with 2-4 hounds per squad as well) and Piranhas (at least one squadron of two) are pretty much required for Tau to survive a game in 5th edition.
Other than that, looks like a solid collection, just never EVER use an ethereal in a game. What are the suits equipped with and are they magnetized.
Standard pathfinders and a sky ray. You may be skeptical, but after a few games with a sky ray, you'll learn they're indispensable.
Current Armies: Tau, Dark Angels, Wood Elves, Bretonnians
Side Projects: Imperial Guard, Dark Eldar, High Elves, The Empire
Devilfish for the Fire Warriors. You have the two from the Pathfinder units, but you could do with a third for the remaining 12 Fire Warriors.
Kroot for sure. Vespid: the jury's out on them (has been for ages). Some folks can get them to work, but most people don't give them the time of day.
Piranhas are good: tank hunters, last turn objective grabbers, free drone squadron, etc.
"Tau Commandment #226: Participants who use Velocity Trackers in the Tau Clay Pigeon Tournament will be disqualified"
Heh. With 36 fire warriors I guarantee that 24 of them will never hit the table. Depending on the size of your game, you might not even ever use more than just 6 of them. Such is the way of things in 5th edition. (Have a look-see at my tactica -- linked in my signature -- for a summary.)
You will require all of your XV8s, but don't use Farsight.
Don't use your Stealths, either.
Otherwise, everybody else's advice so far is spot on. You'll want 1-2 units of pathfinders and their devilfish (because your Fire Warriors require a ride and should almost never get out), plus 20 Kroot and 8-10 Hounds to round out your Troops, and at least 2 piranhas. Again, check out my tactica for how best to use the army in 5th edition 40K. Requirements are considerably different from 3rd edition and 4th edition.
ninjabackhand: point and click, again, really? even after i give you an military term "shock tactic" you still call it point and click.
