Consider the following if you would;
A unit of Scarabs moves into assault range. A Lord with veil of darkness is placed amongst them (or within 2") and scores a hit on the scatter.
As he has moved with 2" of another unit he counts as joining the unit.
Now, if the Scarabs assault what happens to the Lord?
a) stay where he is because after deep striking you cannot assault.
b) assault with the Scarabs because he has joined the unit.
c) nobody does anything because the Lord prevents the Scarabs from assaulting because he has joined the unit and cannot assault.
I would be interested in your thoughts.
I'd say, since he's not allowed to assault, having deep striked and all, the Scarabs get to assault, but he doesn't. I don't think you can Veil yourself into another group like that.
I know what I'd LIKE to happen, and I 'think' it's not how it goes down. You cannot 'assault' if a model is restricted from doing so. It's like RAPID firing warriors, and trying to assault with just the lord. He cannot, so the same applies here...nothing can assault

This is how it goes:
Veil transports Lord within 2" of the Scarabs. The Lord counts as having joined the unit. Once Movement phase is over you can't leave the unit anymore. So now you are stuck with it for the rest of the turn.
One model (Lord) in the unit cannot assault so the unit cannot assault.
Its really very simple. You can't declare assault on Movement phase and since Veil (and subsequent joining into a unit) happens in Movement phase the Lord has jsut successfully prevented scarabs from assaulting the whole turn.
