ive found that deathrains never pop those transports and that fireknives peform better( not in popping transports)
ive been thinking of taking 3 units of 3 fireknives instead
also beside railguns wat do u guys use 4 popping transports???
I too find fireknives more generally useful than deathrains -- and always recommend taking them over deathrains whenever possible -- but that doesn't make deathrains "overrated". They're excellent for the points cost outlay they require; plasma is expensive, after all.
Crisis suits and railguns are all that Tau have for tank/transport popping. One of the serious limitations of the army.

Do you just roll really bad or face high AV transports? A basic DR should hit on a 4(3)+ w/rerolls, and should glance>penetrate on a 3+ VS AV10.
I agree w/Number 6 that Fireknives are awsome but only if you have the points for it, or dont mind building around em.
Transport popping: I use my deathrains for transports and my RG's for heavier stuff, otherwise I'll use my RG's if they have v/little in the way of vehicles on the map and my DR's for mop up, on the off occasion I'll use a piranha w/FB to block and/or toast a transport.

I take Deathrains because they are cheap and pretty good at what they do. Don't think they are overrated. Quite good actually.
