Welcome to Librarium Online!
OK, I'm trying to make the Necrons work in terms of winning. Out of 14 games, I've won only once and that's because I was teamed up with Space Marines. On this forum, I've had people say I need this and that and it always seems contradictory. Here's what I have for Necrons: 1 Lord, 20 Warriors, 7 Immortals and 4 Destroyers. I also have $110 Canadian Dollars to spend on new units. What should I get? I usually play 1000 point games so far but with new units, I would typically be playing 1500 points. Some people say not to field the Immortals because they aren't that great. I've heard that in the next codex, the CTans are being moved to Apocalypse only games and since I don't play Apocalypse games, it seems a waste to get one. I've been told I need more Destroyers. It goes on and on. I just need some good direction so I spend my money right.
I'd say pick up more Destroyers and possibly another box of Warriors. Having 4 more Destroyers will never hurt in a 1000 pts game, and those added Warriors will really help when you ramp up to 1500 pts.
World Eaters: W-47 D-10 L-9
Necrons: W-19 D-3 L-2
Protectorate of Menoth: W-36 D-0 L-7
Destroyers, Monolith. Perhaps increase the Immortal count to 10.

Monoliths, Destroyers and Warriors are all you need if you want to win.
My ideal 1500 pt list ends up being
Lord w/ Rez Orb
Put the Monoliths side by side to create a near impenitrable wall. Put the Warriors w/ Lord behind it and you the two Destroyer units to cover your flanks. It's not fun for people to play against but it will net you plenty of wins.
The dual-Monolith list above me would net a lot of complaints from other players (at least it would over here), due to the sheer cheesyness of bringing several Monoliths into anything below 2000 points.
If you want to have a good chance at winning, while both of you are having fun, field ONE of them, and throw in one or two groups of Destroyers, possibly some Immortals, and Warriors.
Min-maxing, even with a team like Necrons, is considered cheap by most non-Necron players (mainly due to the Monolith and its ability to force the enemy to fire at it without ever going down...), so I'd avoid it somewhat at least.
I have one cardinal rule for Necrons: Once you have enough Warriors and Destroyers everything else will sort itself out somehow.
"Enough" is 40 Warriors and 10 Destroyers. You don't have to use all of them all the time but if you have that much you never run out when building a list.
Revenant Moon Necrons: (W/L/D) 0/1/0 (6th edition: 13/2/2)(5th edition: 14/6/4)(3rd edition Codex: 16/4/7)
XIX Legion: (W/L/D) 0/0/0 (5th edition: 14/12/2)(5th edition Codex: 4/3/0)
Black Legion: (W/L/D) 1/0/0 (6th edition: 2/3/0)
Something Wicked... Reikwald Beastmen: (W/L/D) 10/4/1
Well, Destroyers, destroyers, destroyers. If you managed to get 6+ more destroyers for less than $110 canadian you'd be in good shape to buy 10 more warriors. Then start considering the monolith. Destroyers really are great, and at high numbers cannot be denied WBB testing as few armies can drop 10+ destroyers in a round of shooting (or enough S10 weapons).
Bear in mind before you start DUMPING tons of money into them...Necrons are WEAK right now. Unless you are a good general and know how to exploit their few strengths well, you will LOSE more often than win. That said, even after you spent $110 you might be still mad that they aren't winning still. I would recommend playing a bunch of games with PROXIES. Cardboard circles or other junk you own simply to see what we're talking about. Nothing burns me more than getting tips, and then discovering that it didn't help as much as hoped.
FYI, anyone who considers Necrons CHEESY at all should be dragged out in the street and shot! If anyone ever brought 2 monoliths to a game with me at 1500, the goal would be phase out ignore the monoliths. The example above has nothing scary enough to keep me from charging your lines.

Necrons are difficult to play with, yes, but last 1500 point game I played (was actually 1500+1500 vs 1000+1000+1000), I brought two Monoliths, only to recieve a hail of comments about how lame/cheesy it was. Apparently bringing my only way of dealing with their massed close combat list designed around beating my Necrons up in a turn was cheesy.
I personally feel like nothing you can do with Necrons right now is cheesy at all, since even their best units are at most decent compared to other teams' lists. A lot of people, however, would not agree with me.
If I'm going to be honest with you, I have no idea how people are losing so much with their 'crons, especially if they field lots of Destroyers/Monoliths. I win way more than I lose, and I'm far from a tactical genius, and have never fielded more than six Destroyers in a single game, so winning isn't that difficult, as long as you make sure to utilize every model's specialty.
My first piece of advice when it comes to spending money is invalid here (buy a/many vindicator/s)
I'd say another lord... maybe on a destoyer body, to support...
Some more destroyers, they're rather good
Flayed one are quite good...
Finally, i highly doubt that the C'tan will be moved to Apoc, they're probably just get some kind of formation/upgrade involving multiple lords (off the top of my head, don't spread this as a rumour, it is of my own invention...2 seconds ago)
So buy a C'tan, they're REALLY cool
WORSHIP THE VINDICATOR!!! (And a Drop Pod full of Combie-Melta Sternguard never hurts either)
