Apologies if I've put this post in the wrong place.
I originally started collecting Eldar with my pocketmoney in the late '80s and early '90s, when £2.99 got you a blister of 5 lead figures. Anyhow, stopped collecting them for a while until I moved into University in the late '90s to find one of the lads in my halls was an avid fan. This was a short lived venture and my army has been languishing until I had the recent idea to repaint them.
Now obviously rules have moved on since White Dwarf 127, so I got the newest Eldar Codex as I wanted a 'legal' army, A quick look through that showed that I have nearly 7000 points stashed away, although I do have some questions as to their legalities. I am not intending to turn up at tournaments at the moment, but in case I do in the future could you possibly answer the following questions:
A quick look on a certain internet auction site got me a bargain batch of some extra stuff, including the new Avatar figure that will replace my quite frankly annorexic original Avatar figure who was about as intimidating as a mouse. However one of the new Avatars feet is damaged, If I effect a repair using modelling putty will this then make this figure illegal to use in public?
I have old style metal War-Walkers, although their armament load up of what I assume is now classed as a Brightlance (was Las-cannon) and Scatter Lasers is still catered for in the codex, are these still legal for use?
Back when I collected the bulk of my army the Eldar didn't have vehicles. Heavy support was from grav-platforms, war walkers and dreadnaughts (wraithlords now). Heavy support used to be 2 squads of Reapers with a good field of fire. I see there is no longer any rules for the exarch figure with the skull bolas, however luckily I have a Reaper Exarch with a Shuri Cannon which is in the rules. Are these old figures still legal to use, as I much prefer the look of the original reapers to the new ones?
Harlequins. I see from the Codex that any 'quin can be upgraded to have a kiss, and that 2 are allowed Fusion pistols. I have an old figure with a kiss and a fusion pistol, (think originally they were plasma pistols?) can one figure be upgraded to have both?
I also have a Solitaire figure with a kiss, whilst Solitaires are mentioned in the Codex, there are no rules for them, are they now defunct?
Guardians, whilst I guess my old Eldar pirates,as they originally where, armed with lasguns and even one with a las-cannon are now obsolete, is there anything stopping me fielding the old guardians armed with appropriate weapons in amongst squads of new guardians, or are the pedant police liable to play?
On a similar note, I see Banshees now wield shuri pistols and not las-pistols, any problems if I convert my old models? Same for some old rangers with swords and pistols as well as rifles.
Also, I note that some weapons have changed subtly, with extra bits on ranger rifles, Hawk las-guns now slightly altered and being called las-blasters. Please tell me I don't need to replace all of these figures.
Similarily, my Hawk Exarch was equipped with a Las-Blaster, which looks like a scatter laser with a axe edge on the butt, is this a sun-rifle or hawks talon in new speak?
The Warlock council, in the Codex it says I can have upto 10 Warlocks accompany my Farseer, additionally it says that my units of Wraithguard and Guardians can be accompanied by a Warlock. are these warlocks taken from the 'seer council' or are they extra models? Additionally, I have a mix of figures with witchblades and spears. Does the council have to be uniform or is this allowed?
I see people talking about Nightspinners and see GW do a kit that is either a Nightspinner or a Fire Prism. Where are the rules for this? I saw a thread about an issue of White Dwarf...
I've ordered a copy of Assault on Black Reach, which hopefully will answer some questions.
I've currently got the following
1 Fuegan Phoenix Lord
1 Maugan Ra Phoenix Lord
6 Reapers with 2 Exarchs (1 with bolas though that will need replacing)
9 Fire Dragons + Exarch with Firepike
9 Scorpions + Exarch with claw
9 Banshees + Exarch with Executioner
9 Hawks + Exarch with weapon as discussed
9 Avengers + Exarch with Diresword
7 Warp Spiders + Exarch with double spinner and 2 power swords
20 Guardians with Scatter Laser
20 Guardians with Bright Lance
2 Vibro Cannon platforms
1 Shadow Weever Platform
1 Viper with Brightlance
8 Jetbikes, 2 with Cannon
3 War Walkers with brightlance and scatter laser as discussed
7 Harlequin that have legal weapons
2 Shining Spears
In the coming months I'm hoping to add:
2 Autarchs (1 of each of the non-jetbike models)
The other Phoenix Lords (Even though I read they are overated now)
8 Dragons + 2 Exarchs (2 squads of 5 as I hear they are now the business for tank killing)
10 Avengers with Exarch
1 Warp Spider to make my current squad up to 10
14 Guardians with a Scatter laser platform (to make another squad of 20)
20 Storm Guardians (Means I can use some more of my original guardians)
1 Vibro Cannon platform to make a base of 3
2 Shadow weever platforms to make a base of 3
2 Vipers to make a Sqn of 3
4 Jetbikes (2 with Shuriken Cannon) to make a Sqn of 12
1 more Falcon (this and the other Falcon to transport the small Dragon Squads)
4 Wave Serpents - To get the Aspect Warriors into Combat fast
4 Fire Prisms - I remember their effects in Epic scale games
1 Nightspinner - May as well have 1 of every model
1 Death Jester, Troupe Master and Shadowseer for my 'Quins
3 Shining Spears inc of Exarch to make a Sqd of 5
2 Wraithguard for an even 10...
5 Rangers to increase the size of the small squad.
If I do all of that I think I'll be around the 10,000pt area. I think over the next few years I may try and paint up some other armys, dependent on what the missus says...
Cheers, sorry for such a long post!

Oh,and the most important question as my figures get the old vomit inducing paint schemes removed by being pots of acetone, I don't have to paint them up to the colours of any specific Craftworld mentioned in the Codex do I? (Although the pattern I have in mind is similar to the Alaitoc scheme).
Wow, lots of questions...firstly since your playing a friendly game and not tournaments then pretty much everything is legal so long as your opponent agrees with what everything is. My friends and I are quite felxible on these things so long as before the game starts they are told what everything is representing.
As for paint schemes I'd say you dont have to worry about that unless your going to play in tournaments. I know a couple of ppl who play and dont care about painting their models...primarily because they dont like painting full stop, or they dont have the nessessary skills to paint their army to the standard they'd want and dont have the time nor patience to learn. Shame cause a well painted army looks really good, even a semi decent paint job really makes a difference.
You also don't have to stick to any one particular craftworld paint scheme. Many people make up their own craftworld and even give it a history, theres nothing in the rules against it, Warhammer is not just about the game itself its also about creativity and having fun both on and off the table.
That should answer more or less all your questions since most of them were all about what was legal. If you have any further questions please feel free to ask and happy gaming.
Cool, don't even know anyone that still plays at the moment, I was just going to give it a good paint job and kind of put it on display. Although the missus says she want's to learn... I fear that could only result in another pink monolith like I've seen on another thread....
Apoc? Sorry, think of me as a noob with no understanding atm and you'd be very accurate...
Hopefully it will all make sense when the boxed set turns up...
Thanks to all that waded through the questions and have given me much needed answers. If my paintings any better than it was 10 years ago (It really cannot be any worse...) I'll post some pics somewhere on here as I do them up.
Eldar -APOC- 6500 Points
Chaos Daemons -Fate Crusher- 3500 Points
Grey knights - 1000 Points
Wow with that many points you defo need to try to get some apocalypse games going. Check the link ericismyname has helpfully provided. Then you need to get yourself to Forgeworld (sorry can't link easily as I'm smart phoning, google it) and then you can really go crazy. I believe they will be releasing a phantom Titan soon and that would like smashing amongst your hordes of other models.
