You're better off buying a Lord, you've already got your two troops down so if you can snag an HQ you're ready for play.It would be better to play a few small beginer games with the standard FOC setup to get the hang of things, then you can decide how to expand the army depending on what you need.

I was thinking about adding a raider and 16 more warriors so iwould have 1 18troop unit with splinter cannon and the blaster and shreeder ,a 10 man unit with dark lances and a 8 man unit in raider

good idea raiders you will learn to love and pray to yet the always get shot down
they are cheap/block line of sight/darklance try to avoid scorges they are expensive pt wise and are not very good same with mandrakes and groteskes but if they fit your strat have a go at them.
splinter cannons kick ass assult 4, 2 in a squad you learn to love then and your ork enemys learn to fear them

wyches you will learn to love ya archon would be a good thing to start off with but remember troops win battles

HM... your start is just like mine, plain warriors

TRoops are good so keep em all, just get an archon, and a few incubi. Also, a raider, and maybe a ravager or 2. That can easily get ya started.

    incubi

aside from the definite lord, you might want to bulk up the warrior squads abit and get some jetbikes

okay well eventually work your way up to getting at least one unit of each in the Codex (you don't have to max them out)

but to get you started playing like everyone else has said a lord or maybe a haemonculus your decision

    then go for a talos and a ravager w/ 3 dissies/DL's

then go for jetbikes or hellions, i prefer hellions but most people don't

after that you should know what your playing style is like so then just get what suits it

Hey Torturer, here's my fairly well performing tournament list I'm using at present. Of course it gets fine tuned, but this is the basics of a (so far) well performing army that I use when I don't know who I'm facing (eg. in tournaments). There is a little room points wise, for fine tuning in this list but this shows some basics that you should consider when buying units... Of course, if you know who you are playing, this list could change quite a bit.

    1 Dracon
Power Weapon Shadow Field Reaver Jetbike Plasma Grenades Combat Drugs Hell Mask

You may want an archon but this guy is fairly tough. If you aren't too worried about composition scores, maybe 2 Dracons is worth thinking about. He always rides with a bike squad. Always take Hell Masks when you can!

    4 Reaver Jetbikes
Splinter Pistol; Splinter Rifle (x2); Blaster (x2)

    1 Succubus
Agoniser Splinter Rifle #Reaver Jetbike Tormentor Helm Plasma Grenades Haywire Grenades Hell Mask

    4 Reaver Jetbikes
Splinter Pistol; Splinter Rifle x2; Blaster x2

1 Succubus Agoniser ; Splinter Rifle
Reaver Jetbike Tormentor Helm Plasma Grenades Hell Mask Haywire Grenades

These are meat and veg for a fast hard hitting DE army! Chose your targets well though and don't just square off against their tough units. With DE, never be afraid to retreat.

    1 Ravager (Heavy Support)
    Disintegrator (x3)

Mmmm, such devastation for so few points. Try to keep him hull down.

    9 Raider Squad
    Splinter Rifles; Splinter Cannon; Blaster

    1 Sybarite
Agoniser ; Splinter Pistol Hell Mask

    1 Raider
    Disintegrator

    9 Raider Squad
Splinter Rifles ; Splinter Cannon ; Blaster

    1 Sybarite
Agoniser ; Splinter Pistol; Hell Mask

    1 Raider
    Disintegrator

More meat and veg for DE armies!

    9 Warriors
    Splinter Rifles ; Dark Lance x 2

    1 Sybarite
    Poisoned Blades; Hell Mask

    9 Warriors
    Splinter Rifles; Dark Lance x2

    1 Sybarite
    Poisoned Blades; Hell Mask

These 2 squads are sometimes considered Cheesy (sorry for using that word folks) but boy can they get good results. 2 DL's with 8 bodies to take absorb hits.

    11 Wyches
Splinter P. & CCW ; Plasma Grenades; Wych Weapons

    1 Succubus
Agoniser ; Close Combat Weapon; Plasma Grenades; Wych Weapons; Hell Mask

The wyches can be very good but you must keep them out of harms way until they can enter combat (that's the hard bit). Try to keep them distracted with other units while the girls sneak up. Some may argue that this unit isn't the best, and I'd say possibly so. But if it works, they can do very well. It's a matter of taste if you use wyches.

Good luck with your new DE anyway, they are fun to use and are particularly good at missions, though they can be very good at straight out pitched battles too if played right.
