I am starting to play Eldar in tournaments, and was wondering witch unit woudl work better as an infantry killer/objective grabber.
Option 1: 10 Guardians in a wave serpent with a S.Cannon platform, The serpent has Twin linked S.Cannons, and Twin cats.
Option A: 6 eldar Jetbikes with 2 S.Cannons, and a Warlock w/ Spear + embolden. for a total of 7 bikers.
The unit will hopfully clean up any remaining infantry left after my walkers fire on enemy units. So their killing potential dosnt need to be that great, They do need to be survivable and fast moving.
The rest of the army is as follows.
3x 10 man fire dragons mounted in serpents.
1x 10 man guardian squad mounted in serpent. (Eldrads ride)
2x Units of 3 walkers with all scatter lasers, or S.Cannons.
2x of either (option 1) or (option A)
I look forward to any insight anyone might have on eldar jetbikes
I'd go with Wave Serpent. Reasoning being that Jetbikes are far too fragile. Sure they're tougher than most other Eldar, but whenever anyone sees them, they're just going to fire Heavy weapons at them. Even small arms fire can take them out with ease, and Turbo Boosting won't save them that much. Whereas a Wave serpent is much more resistant to being shot, with a mixture of better armour and the energy field rule. So long as you don't get shot in the rear, nothing will be damaging you on better than a 4+. Small arms fire won't be touching you and with going flat out you get a cover save which is only slightly worse than the Jetbikes.
Close combat wise, the Serpent is still better in most situations, since most generic infantry either can't hurt it at all or need a 6 to hit/wound. If the Jetbikes get into combat they won't last long.
The downfall of bikes is their 12" shooting. Even with the 6" move away in the assault phase you're still going to be in danger of being assaulted vs some armies (particularly nids), so you're going to have to hug flanks with them in order to fire and move away safely and then you're lef in range of a rhino full of marines who can roll up and rapid fire you in the face.
The best way i can see to run them is 6 with 2 shuri catas. That way you can keep out of bolter range and pose a threat to rhino's and side armour of pred/vindis. The only problem is that ends up costing over 150 points. For 160 you can take the troop carrying serpent. Personally I'd try and bump the serpent up to a scatter laser, making it better at hurting rhinos/side of a pred than the bikes (due to twinlinknig), gives you extra range and tank shocking is a great contesting tool.
You particularly ask about infantry killing.. in that case I'd take the serpent, storm guardians with 2 flamers and a warlock with destructor. It's cheaper than dire avengers with blade storm and doesnt need the support of a seer to make them really effective. So it depends on how many points you have. 2 lots of guardians in serpents will cost you up around 500 points, 2 lots of jetbikes is only around 300 (400 with the warlocks you mention). I think the guardians edge it, but it'll depend on how many points you have to spare.
