Wich do you find you more effective?

So my current eldar collection consists off 1 Dire Avenger squad.
I was thinking of what to buy next, A Guardian squad or a StormGuardian squad?
Seen as guardians only have bs 3, the heavy weapon platform isnt really of good use, Since u miss 50%. So i figured normal guardians are only good for holding a home objective. StormGuardians on the other hand, you can assault with and actually do some damage and also hold objectives. I don't have ANY tabletop experience with eldar, so i need your opinions/what works best with you. Also, after that, would the best by be a farseer and waveserpent? or maybe some banshees/dragons? Thanks alot for your time =)

If the choice was only the Guardians/Stormies... Storms win every time. 3 flamer templates is nice. Very nice. Wave Serpents are always good, though personally, I find that 2 Battleforces is a fantastic start for Eldar if you don't mind converting your crappy guardians.

I have a lot of friends who play Eldar, and I have to say I'd pick...more dire avengers.

    No? How about rangers?

Honestly, I've never been impressed with either type of guardian. Dire avengers just always seem to outperform them. Still, if you really want guardians, then storm guardians are the better choice. Regular guardians are just taken for the heavy weapon, and there are better ways of adding those to your list.

Storm Guardians are a lot better than regular Guardians. I made a small battle report in a forum here today so have a read and it'll show your what Storm guardians can do, but don't expect them to work this well every time.

Dire avengers are good but they are too hyped up I say. Yes they have a better BS, WS, Armour Save and Weapon Range than regular Guardians but in CC they both suck.

If your just starting out and youll be doing low point games so I'd recommend a wraithlord to give you some heavy weapons and a devestating force in CC and unlike a tank you are assured that he will survive that one heavy weapon shot and will be able to shoot next turn. If your opponent has an abundance of heavy weapons however then your wraithlord might be in trouble.

What ever the case unless your going to go a full on foot slogger list which Eldar don't suit due to out low toughness, poor armour save and lack of numbers you'll need a wave serpent or two for transporting those key units.
If you could tell us what your most common opponents army is we can give you some more specialised choices for that partcular army.

    Eldar -APOC- 6500 Points
Chaos Daemons -Fate Crusher- 3500 Points

First a HQ... Probably a farseer is the most versitlie.

2nd Im a fan of mounted units in a wave serpent or falcon. I feel that regular guardians are almost useless with thier catapults, poor BS and thier heavy weapon platform is way overpriced. I can see using storm guardians w/ flamers but my preferance is dropping a load of dires off a waveserpent and shooting my doomed target to death.

Foot slogging Guardians across a battlefield is walking death (for them) and its tricky to pull off a assault out of a serpent with them.

I bought a battleforce when i started eldar about 2 years ago. And now, i am converting my defenders to storms. Soo much better. That 3 template (1 heavy flamer) is just incredible, you also get pistol shots . If you are really desperate you can charge vehicles and try to harm it with your warlocks witchblade too.

So basically, Storm guardians are better. But are they worth it to stick them in a wave serpent? Ofcourse, Howling Banshees are more efficient, but not troop choices =/. But i'll sure stay away from normal guardians, might get the battleforce and a farseer ^^ The walker in the battleforce, Are those good? I always thought an EML on a ws is twinlinked, and has a higher armor value and quicker, So more durable/Versatile as a walker? I guess they do excel at infantry killing, with scatter lasers =).

@ farseer macleod, LOL you got sooo lucky, or stormies are ****ing beast xd.
I might get a wraithlord, seen as its not that expesive point wise, and you can deal a ton of damage.

Another question for you all; Are Pathfinders worth it points cost wise, To buy 5 of them and put them on your home objective?
What else would excel at holding a home objective? Thanks for your time =)

Btw, my most common opponents are space marines and nids i guess (2 completely different armies),
But there are also ppl who play tau, and orks. Still, I think i'm most likely to encounter marines,
As they are still the most populair army ^^
