I want to give my Tyranids a nickname but I'm not sure what. My mate has got orks and he's calling them, 'Da Ass Kickers'. Have you got any suggestions on what I can call my Tyranids? Thanks
could someone at least reply
Dude you waited AN HOUR before asking for a post? Sometimes it can be a while before someone gets around to posting, just bear with it.
As for names, all tyranids armies are classified as "hive fleets" so stick something on the end of that. My recogmendation is to go through acient myths and legends for monsters. Leviathan, behmoth and kraken are all legendary beasts and example of this sorta thinking. So for example chimera, charon, medussa ect ect, just go through any book of greek myths and look for monstare names.
Your friendly neighbourhood gargantuan creature
Tyranids are often called bugs. This is because firstly they look and live in a manner similar to insects. Also they are simialr to the 'Bugs' in Starship Troopers.
Hive/Splinter Fleet <something mythological>
That's basically it, no fancy stuff. I call mine "Hive Fleet Nidhöggr" based on norse mythology, translated it means "malice striker" and it's the dragon that chews on the world tree. This fits me perfectly as my army theme is close combat and alpha-strike destruction in combat, but fluff wise my fleet slowly eats away at unprotected human colonies. Other sources of inspiration could be the game Starcraft, where they are called broods (Jormungand Brood for example).
There are plenty of suggestions on various wikis, or you can make up something of your own, or just call them "bugs/critters" or whatever depending on how much you really are into back-stories. If you are really into it like me you'll pick a name that reflects your play-style. I always refer to myself in plural when playing, so instead of saying "I assault your nobz with my warriors." I say "We assault your nobz with our warriors.", gives a little-tie in to the whole hive-mind thing with the Tyranids.
Anyhow, good luck in finding a nickname for your Tyranids, hope I didn't ramble too much. =)
Thank you very much mate. I think I might use mythology.
Or, you latin words to signify something Eg.
I use the name Hive Fleet Macarbe
macarbe means ghastly death, overly violent which suits my army, as I use lots of CC monsters, genesetelers, flyrants etc.
Want to start Tyranids? http://www.librarium-online.com/foru...ml#post1799921 AND http://www.librarium-online.com/foru...t-builder.html
I call mine "Hive Fleet Snuggles" mostly because people get annoyed when they're slaughtered by something that sounds cute.
I remember in the previous Tyranid codex (4th ED) all the Tyranids were given nicknames as well as their Imperial designations such as Hive Tyrant. They were stated as common names in the codex. Here are the nicknames they gave for them in the older codex.
Hive Tyrant = Overfiend.
Broodlord = Leech-Master.
Tyrant Guard = Shielder.
Tyranid Warriors = Warriors.
Lictors = Spook, Mantis stalker.
Termagants = Critter.
Hormagaunts = Slasher.
Rippers = Anklebiters.
Genestealers = Stealer, Sewerstalker, Scuttler, Clawfiend, Ghost, Leech.
Raveners = Slither-slasher.
Spore mines = Floaters.
Gargoyles = Hellbat.
Biovore = Gunbeast.
Carnifex = Screamer-Killer.
I think that Malanthopes are called Corpse eaters and scavengers in one of the Forge world books.
What I'm really looking for is to name my whole army something. Not the individual units.
