Which options do you guys recommend for a battlewagon?
I'm thinking of building one with a
- deff rolla
- red paint job
- zzapp gun
- 4 x rokkit launchas
That adds up to 170 points.
Also - am I suppose to take an extra crew for the zapp gun? 1-2 grots - or how does that go?
dont bother with the zapp - BS2 ain't gonna help
Deff rolla with a couple of rocket launchers or big shootas to stop weapon destroyed becoming immobilised - the RPJ is your choice - you should be putting a 20 man ork squad or nobs or burnas in there
Tau: 6K - W17-D3-L4, Orks: 4K - W9-D0-L2, SM: 7K - W7-D3-L4,CSM: 4K W5-D1-L1, Nids: 3.2K W3-D0-L2
Apoc games (mixture of armies used): W5-D0-L1
Magnetize the turrets and deff rolla/ram, and then you don't have to worry about what options you choose.
My battlewagon configs.
1 or 2 big shoota's
Battering Ram (Not every wagon needs a deff rolla)
Grot Riggers (Unless this one has the big mek, then i drop the riggers)
1 big shoota, and 1 kannon
4 rokkit's and a zap gun can only fire if the wagon is sitting still, which means it's extremely vulnerable to assault (I play vs nids all the time)...and lemme tell you, 24 inches is nothing to a group of nids.
If you ever consider taking a rockit on the wagon, take the kannon instead. You can actually fire the kannon AND the big shoota while moving 6 or 7 (RPJ) if you use the kannon's defensive round.
Oh ya, and I'm sure you know this, but always take more then one wagon, and always have a KFF Big Mek in one!
Thanks. I see the issue with rokkits. Maybe I need to rethink that.
Apart from spending some extra points, is there a downside in taking the full option of having 4 weapons? Does the wagon become too much of a threat, is it better to downscale a bit and go for 2 weapons?
I was thinking I'd have 1 battlewagon and 2 trukks (in a list of 1750-2000 points).
You can only fire 1 weapon and 1 defensive weapon if you move 6 inches (7 with RPJ). The only time you can fire all weapons on the battlewagon, is if it's sitting completely still.
This of course means, if anything assaults the battlewagon, it automatically hits against the rear armor.
In that many points, I'd take at least 3 battlewagons. One battlewagon will die VERY quickly. It's all about splitting the enemy's firepower. If you've just got one battlwagon, they'll just throw every anti armor weapon they have against it, and it'll die on turn 1 or 2, never reaching its target. Ork's are all about taking more then one of something, it's about overkill!
I've played with two battle wagons in a 750 point game! I think 3-4 would be good for 1500, 3+ definitely at 2k. If you don't have the type of cash to put down that many battlewagons, play a lower point game, or proxy them!
I've now played about 15-16 games, and I find that staying at the 1k point range (or under), makes for much more games in the same time frame, allowing for tons of different strategies and opponents!
