I was wondering if anyone has any advice on how to deploy a Webway Portal, specifically how to guarantee its deployment.
I'm not sure whether to go for a large unit to ensure that a haemonculi or archon can survive or go multiple small units with say two or three portals.
Also can anyone recommend any tactics on actually deploying the portal. Idealy it would be deployed at turn 1 so that any units coming on in turn 2 will be used to full effect. As a raider can only move 6" and still let the dude deploy the portal is that the best idea, or would it be better to just have him hoofing it up the field as he can move 6" anyway?
I'm guessing that the best place to deploy a portal would be about half to 2/3 of the way up the table, any other thoughts?
Thanks for the help guys
First of all, webway portals are way less risky because our army isn't destroyed if the portal can't be deployed. This means you can get away with using only 1 portal, although 2 is optimal. You can also deploy 2 portals and choose which portal your units come from.
Secondly, if you want more than 2 portals, you need to run haemonculi since portals can only be given to hq.
Lastly, as far as I know, the raider can move 12", unit disembarks and then the carrier deploys the portal instead of shooting. The portal can't be deployed from inside the vehicle.
It's usually good to get the portal on the ground asap because the units are coming onto the board regardless of whether or not the portal is out.
In bigger (1750 and up) games I plan on taking at least 2 of them and deploying one 1st turn, and one 2nd turn. That way reserves that don't make it out on turn 2 will likely have some pretty serious flexibility as to where they show up. Although now that vehicles can't use it I see it being somewhat less useful and only really worth it for beasts, Talos, and maybe helions (Although a small scourge squad could be interesting too as you can decide last minute to not DS them and use the portal instead)
The meat things seek to destroy ourselves. They hunt us as we hunt them but they are weak and uncertain. Bring them understanding of the power of ourselves through our strength and their fear. The inferior flesh will be entirely destroyed, all fragments will be smashed. Ourselves will fight to the last, all weak flesh must be consumed
