just started tyranids and i got alot of stuff now. Anyway i am playing my friend who is going to be playing guard in a week with my tyranids. Dont have a list yet and i dont know what he is using. Just wanted to know what guards weakness are to tyranids.
Alright, I'll give this a shot, someone just slap me down hard if I steer him wrong.
Offhand, I'd say that, unless you were fighting some kind of crazy tourney-sweeping mech build, Imperial Guard tend to be able to rain fire on you, but fold like cardboard in close combat. Mind you, I'm still new to 'nids myself, and have never faced Guard either, but from what I understand you need to chew through them fast in assault.
Infiltrating Genestealers are an idea, and perhaps some Hormagaunts outflanking.
Depending on the point level take a tyrranofex, you need the heavy ranged fire. LOTS of anti tank. Throps, guards etc.

Hive guards and thropes are your best friends against guard. 2 x 3 hive guard and 1 x 3 podding zoanthropes has become a must have for me, and they key to victory is target prioritory (more so than normal.) There are certain guard units that you simply HAVE to bring down asap or they'll knock out the important things in your army like paper.
Vendettas are a must kill (3 TL lascannons, and they can fire them all when moving 6 inches. Oh and its a fast skimmer :'( ) as are any squads maxed out on plasma/melta fire. I wouldnt recogmend using reserves, guard have abilitys that mess them up BADLY if they take a CCS. Lastly beware of the manticores, they'll destory any and every bit of infantry you have very quickly.
If you can knock out their heavy tanks fast enough and then move on to the sqishy infantry your probably gonna get the win but id say guard is THE toughest matchup for tyranids out there, it wont be an easy game.
Your friendly neighbourhood gargantuan creature
Guard is tough for just about any army. They're one of the most solid codex out right now along with Space Wolves. I'd say there's 3 units effective against Guard - the tervigon, hive guards and biovores. Tervigons to create more termagants, hive guards to shoot down vehicles, and biovores to kill foot infantry.
Either that, or an all-reserves tyranid list in which almost every unit stays in reserves and comes in with the help of Hive Commander.
Record: Win - Loss - Draw: Hive Fleet Pandora (New) 32-6-6 Space Wolf 7th Co. 52-11-6
Blood Angels 12-4-2 Daemonhunters 20-8-3
Imperial Guards 12-5-2 Daemons 8-3-2
thanks for the info guys oh and its a 2500 pt game. still dont have a list but my friend told me what he is taking. he is taking lots of guard im guessing platoons and hq squads, those artillery guns, leman russ, storm troopers, vendettas, and those flaming tanks.so should i go shooty or a mix of shooty and swarm
