In a tournament is it considered bad form to change which troops are deployed in which transport from game to game? Or does this all have to be decided in the list building stage and not changed at all?
Which army are you talking about like if its space marines and you declare your changing a 10 man squad from one rhino to another its not considerd bad form but if you change it to a diffrent type of transport IE Land raider or drop pod your not allowed to do this in most tournments, some might allow this. This can give huge tactical advantages to you. During deployment you can deploy your rhino where ever you want so theres no point really in changing a squad to a diffrent rhino and you can deffentley not change one squad to a diffrent transport during the game.

I'm talking my eldar with a wave serpent. I'm wondering if I can have a squad of Dire Avengers in it one game and my Wraithguard in another game. The army list doesn't change at all. Just who is using the transport.
Well since you have to buy the WaveSerpent as a dedicated transport for THAT squad...I'd say no.
Because the important thing is that your army list cannot change throughout a tournament. And while the overall # and types aren't changing, dedicated transports are effectively an option for that specific squad (and should be noted on your armylist as such).
It would be different if you were talking about a Falcon or other non-dedicated transport (though wraithguard cannot board a Falcon anyway) and putting Fire Dragons in it in one game and Banshees in another, as that is just deploying a different unit in that vehicle.
But dedicated transports are a different story.
When a dedicated transport is deployed it can only carry the unit it was selected with.
Certainly no problem deploying it empty then having your Wraithguard board it 1st turn!
At the beginning of turn 1, I spray my opponent's army with the bacon flavored spray. Then I unleash my Boston Terrier Squiggoth who then devours their entire bacon flavored army! There is no defense against her cuteness! All are doomed!
Yah, you can't do that, you bought the WS for that unit.
You can always dump the squad you bought with the WS first turn and move a new unit in it as long as you don't need to disembark the new unit the first turn. Both units can still move and shoot after, just no disembarking first turn for the newly embarked unit.
