Welcome to Librarium Online!
Hello, I am new to orks and was wondering what I should buy to start my ork army. Proberley £150 pounds or less.
Thanks in advance.
Welcome to the WAAAGH! skulllhead!!
Just before I start, are you new to warhammer 40K or just orks?
For the orks then most people would pick up the assault on black reach box which basically gives you about 500 points including a warboss, 5 nobs, 20 ork boys and 3 deffcopta. It will also give you quite a lot of space marines which you can swap/sell for more orks!
If you think it might be hard for you do sell these guys (which it shouldn't!) then you could pick up the ork battleforce instead but it is definitely an inferior option.
Also if you haven't got the codex then it is definitley a must buy.
After that then it really depend oon what sort of army you want . If you want a green horde then i would expect more boys, speed freaks and you will need some trukks(or possibly the battleforce for the trukk and the bikers), or if you want a kan wall then you will obviously need some more kans.
If you need any more info on the different types of army then just look around the ork forums and you are sure to find one that you like.
But same as mr.darkness said, it depends on what your looking for. Do you want a wave of green troops charging at your enemy? Do you want a metal wall of killyness stomping down the battlefield? Do you wanna go fast? Look around, especially in grax's posts (Should be stickied) and then come back with some definite ideas and from there people will be able to better specify you to what to buy/where to go next with your army.
Definitely this order:
Battleforce and/or Black Reach
From there on out it depends on what kinda of army you're looking to build.
Thanks for the advice. Im new to orks, I already have eldar and nids. Might get assualt on black reach becuase my friend is starting soon and might get marines. Most likely going to go for a green horde army. Any other fast attacks that can work with a green horde. Storm Boys?
green tide is defintely a very compoetitive army. As for fast attacks then storm boys are good models and definitely fit the fluff (being normal ork boys with rokkits) but I don't think they are particularly effective in this type of army. This is because you will be needing a fast way of killing tanks (as they kill your boys very quick.) This means that deffkoptas are good (in assault on black reach) and also warbuggies with rokkits are very useful and also cheaper. Kommandos aren't technically fast but can start near the enemy do have the same effect, especially if they have snikrot so they can come in from any board edge.
Finally , for the green tide army list I think that a must is ghazzghull mag uruk thraka as he provides the best way of getting your large amount of boys into combat in the second turn!!
Wow, just looked at thraka on games workshop. They have an article about him, he looks epic. Proberley going to get a battleforce and a warboss. Normal warboss as thraka costs 20 pounds! Which is a bit expensive for one model. I will just say its thraka as im just playing friends. Im gonna ask for another battle force for xmas and some more boys and deff kopters or buggies
Changed my mind. Proberley gonna get black reach because its only 5 pounds more and you get deffkoptas instead of bikes and nobz instead of trukk. Then get a trukk later on.
I recommend AoBR then a Battleforce. This gives you a solid base (40 boys, 3 deffkoptas, 3 bikes, trukk, 5 nobs, warboss) and then you can go from there. I would then consider a box of nobs as they are awesome models, and you can then have 10 strong with klaws, big choppas etc.
Perhaps consider getting 10 lootas/burnas down the track for some more dakka. I find kommandos led by Snikrot are fun, but remember that you dont need to buy the Kommandos box. What I did was paint some boys in camo with stikkbomms and stealthy looking poses.
Perhaps something like this is good for long term:
Kommandos+Snikrot / Lootas-Burnas
Deff Dread/Killa Kans/ Battlewagon
Throw in Gazghul at some point for the ultimate in footslogging. A battlewagon also works nicely.
Anyway, those are just my thoughts on the matter.
A lot of people have suggested the AoBR box which is a great choice as long as you dont mind getting nothing but slugga boyz, if you want shootas you will have to get the battleforce. If you plan on running slugga boyz ensure their mob is around 30 per mob.
