Welcome to Librarium Online!
So I finally got a game in against the new DE codex. This was my friend's first game with the new dex, but he's been playing DE for around 10 years now (geez have we been in the game for that long?). Rather than take our standard tournament lists we opted to make his first game with the codex more fun and tailor our lists a bit. Plus it would give him the opportunity to try more stuff out. We played 1750, and my list was pretty close to my tournament list except for the fact that I decided to leave my fire dragons out and took some outflanking scorpions instead. I would have taken some warp spiders but I forgot I moved them to my other box since I rarely use them anymore. I was kicking myself cause I thought they'd be useful, but it turned out to not be a big deal because he anticipated that I'd load up on S6 shots, and planned accordingly...
10 Banshees (Exarch with mirrorswords, acrobat) in Serpent with shuricannon and stones
10 Scorpions (Exarch with claw, move through cover, infiltrate)
2x10 DAs (Exarch with dual catapults, bladestorm) in Serpent with EML and stones
10 Stormies with 2 flamers (Warlock with destructor) in Serpent with shuricannon and stones
2 Fire Prisms
3 Warwalkers with shuricannons
His list (can't remember all the upgrades cause he didn't use them all, I have the codex, but not on me so I can't remember all the names of upgrades)
3 Haemonculi with webway portals, one had crucible
3x10 Wracks (2 in raiders with Haemies, one in portal)
20 warriors with 2 splinter cannons (I was wondering why he didn't give them lances, their job was just to sit there...) last Haemie was with this squad
3x5 Scourge with 2 thermal lances (In reserve)
Now here's the problem. Wracks are toughness 4 and start with a free pain token, the squads with the Haemies started with 2. So my S6 weapons weren't getting rid of feel no pain.
Also, sorry about the no pictures, pretty much everything of his except the warriors, raiders, and haemies were proxied
Dark Eldar 1
We ended up with Dawn of War, Capture and Control. I won the roll and elected to go second. He had his haemie with the warriors place his portal, and brought on his raiders. The rest was in reserve.
I move everything except the war walkers and scorpions (who are both outflanking) on. The only damage I inflicted was stunning a raider, thanks to night fight.
Dark Eldar 2
Turn 2 started with his reserve Wrack squad and 1 Scourge squad coming in. I had my guardian serpent posted on my objective. He took a gamble and Deep struck the scourge behind them, dangerously close to the table edge. He didn't deviate, but both his thermal lances missed. His portal Wracks moved towards his objective, which he had left unclaimed, but covered by tons of splinter weapons from the warriors in the adjacent building, and moved a raider up, disembarked, and activated the second portal.
In my turn I wrecked his stunned raider, and turbo boosted my banshees forward, Now they were on his own table edge. My Walkers and scorpions both came in on opposite sides, with the scorpions barely within charge range of his portal Wrack squad. A fire prism hit his scourge unit and wiped them out. Nothing was going on on the Warwalker's flank, but they were still in range of his other raider, which they immobilized. This would be all the damage I inflicted with shooting. I bladestormed a DA squad at the Wracks whose raider was destroyed, and inflicted no casualties. Muttering my displeasure under my breath, I made the key terrain roll with my scorps (trip 6s!) and wiped out the portal wracks.
Dark Eldar 3
Turn 3 was painful. The rest of his stuff came in, and used the back portal (apparently even though he had declared the scourge were deepstriking, he could still use the portal, which is kinda weird). So the Scourge wrecked the banshee serpent, the chronos hit them with the spirit leech weapon, giving the pain point to one of the scourge squads, and the Wracks who had survived the bladestorm got revenge and killed all the DAs that shot them (2 S4 AP D6 flamers, he rolled a 4 and a 1). One talos assaulted my scorpions, killing 4 but taking a wound from the exarch's claw. The scorions stood their ground though. My banshee squad was down to 4 once the big warrior squad was done shooting at them, but they held firm as well.
In my turn, I fired both my prisms and both EML serpents at the cronus and brought it down (No more free pain points, thank god), and doomed the talos fighting the scorpions. The warwalkers shot at the immobilized raider, blowing it up and killing 2 wracks in the explosion. They passed their pin check. My banshees asaulted the both scourge units, and while they only killed 3, I suffered no casualties in return and wiped both squads out in pursuit. The Scorpions failed to damage the talos, and lost 2 more, but still held their ground.
Dark Eldar 4
So apparently Talos can get pain points as well. This is troubling. This was brought to my attention when all my banshees except the exarch were wiped out, and the farseer, now out of coherency with the unit, was assaulted by the other talos and unceremoniously snipped in 2. His wracks wracks that killed my DAs moved to his objectives, now that the scorps were safely tied up with an irate talos. His other wrack squad cowered in the crater left by their ex-raider. I lost 2 more scorpions and inflicted no return wounds. Still stayed in combat though.
I unloaded 2 prisms and 2 EMLs at the talos with the pain point (ie, the one I could shoot at cause it wasn't engaged) The prisms clipped 2 wounds from it, but the EMLs were shrugged off by FnP. The Warwalkers fired at the cowering Wracks and failed to cause any damage (For the record, I think he only failed 6 FnP rolls the entire game). The lone banshee exarch charged his warriors, and was only able to inflict 1 wound. I thought i was being clever since he was staggered throughout the floors of a building that he wouldnt be able to get enough close to me to off me, but he had plenty of attacks. Ah well, the only other targets were Talos which she couldn't wound. The Scorpions were filnally wiped out, and he now had 10 wracks, a haemie, and 2 talos camped on his objective. There was no way I was taking it with what I had left, especially since he couldn't seem to fail any FnP rolls. However, the only threat he had on mine was a squad of wracks, and I had a DA serpent and 2 fire prisms hovering around it.
Dark Eldar 5
His Wracks assault my DA wave serpent and inflict no damage.
I move my empty wave serpent flat ouit into the midst of his Wracks and Talos. His wracks are fearless now, but I was able to move them away from the objective and contest it with the wave serepnt, and critically, I passed the dangerous terrain check. A fire prism shoots at his wracks clustered around my DA serpent (Which had since moved away, but kept within range of the objective) and wiped them out, though the haemie was still standing (The whole squad fit under the S9 AP2 small blast). He was quickly eliminated by the War Walkers, eliminating the last threat to my objective.
We have a house rule where the player currently losing rolls for random game length. He rolls a 3 and we play on...
Dark Eldar 6
He really has no real chance of taking my objective. The Warriors could be in range after turn 7, but there are skimmers parked between him and the objective, and while he has a very outside chance of destroying them thanks to furious charge (practically handed to them by me charging my exarch into them, idiot...) the fact that he can't consolidate afterwards means he would have to kill the DA serpent and hope they got pinned in the wreckage, since pinned units can't score. He got out of his building, and started marching towards my objective. He would be in assault range on turn 7. The talos both charge my empty wave serpent, but only succeed in giving it a good shaking.
I move my empty wave serepnt off his objective, and move the guardian wave serpent to take its place (again passing the dangerous terrain check). The War Walkers kill 9 warriors, but they hold their ground. Meanwhile both prisms and the DA serpent fire at the critically wounded Talos and inflict no damage (Damn that FnP!!!). He rolls a 3 and the game ends.
Eldar Victory, 1 - 0
I had 2 prisms, 3 war walkers, 3 serpents, 10 DAs, and 10 guardians with their warlock (both squads never left their transports), and he had 2 Haemies, 10 wracks, 11 warriors, a talos with 1 wound left, and a talos with 2 wounds left.
I was very worried after turn 3. I lost a squad of DAs, my Banshees were mauled, and my Scorpions were fighting a less than ideal assault (they would have had a chance if I could roll worth a damn, but ah well). Plus all his stuff came out of the one portal, and really made a mess of my attack. Once those Talos were there I really wasn't able to produce a legitimate threat on his objective. However, once my banshees saw off his scourge, his anti-tank threat was eliminated, and I still had 5 healthy tanks and 3 walkers. I was expecting him to load up on dark lances, which has worked very well against my mech eldar in the past (shocker, I know) but he went with T4 and Pain Points instead. I have to admit it was frustrating (32 shuriken shots and not a single casualty), but looking back there was never really much cause for concern, even after the wave of death that hit me on turn 3.
This new Dark Eldar army seems all about trade offs. You can compensate for their glass cannon tendencies by taking Haemonculi and Wracks and Talos and such, but this leaves you critically low on anti-tank. Against other mech armies he'd probably be OK, cause the Talos and the Cronos can do incredible damage to vehicles, but he was having problems with skimmers. I don't think he would ever take this list to tournament, since he was just trying to throw a curveball at me since he knew I was gonna load up on strength 6 shots to deny him FnP, which, it must be noted, he needs to roll much, much worse for. Ironically, I probably would have done better against him if I jsut took my tournament list (a couple squads of fire dragons would have helped against those talos) and he would have done much better doing the same (I can't do a thing against lance spam). I also made some tactical blunders in that my attack wasn't really all that coordinated. which ended up costing me a DA squad. But I honestly didn't think I'd need much more than that to kill off the wracks. Oh well, from now on against this particular player I know that there is no overkill if he has FnP.
EDIT: If a mod wants to move this to the Batrep forum I'd understand. The post didn't start out that way, but when I tried to provide context for my thoughts it sort of escalated...

Yeah the DE need to have duality in almost each of their unit build in list. transport AT and unit inside AInf or otherwise, transport Ainf and unit AT. Wracks portal lists can acomplish these harder without AT support because of lack of transports.
Seems a good fun game.

Otherwise nice info and a nice batrep, we finally found someone in the are who plays DE and I might get to play them in the near future. All insight into their various builds is much appreciated. It seems a bit odd that you took Scorpions as they will strike last/simaltaniously to DE and will never deny FNP, although there are worse choices I still think this was the largest boboo in your list.
Yeah I ended up taking the scorpions cause I didn't have my warp spiders with me, which still wouldn't have been too effective against Wracks, but I was expecting Wyches and Dark Lances everywhere. The scorps I figured could still be effective for a couple reasons 1) Yes they strike simultanious with warriors, but they have plenty of attacks to get around FnP and would be good for dislodging most units (aside from wyches, who strike first) from objectives. Plus having outflankers can really go a long way to changing how your opponent deploys and where they move to. They are also tough enough to take the return hits from the units they are fighting (again, so long as they aren't fighting CC specialists like Wyches or god forbid incubi. It turned out to be a good thing that I took them though, cause Wracks are only initiative 4. They didn't perform their best, but they tied up a talos for a long time, and really should have killed it (the scorpions were wounding on 6s, which I was getting but he kept making his saves, the exarch was wounding on 5s with no saves, but I wasn't getting those 5s, you know how it is), but I really wasn't rolling well all game. Also, from a completely non-competitive standpoint, I just think scorpions are badass.
I actually left my rule book at my friends house, but if it's true that pinned units can hold objectives, then I've been playing wrong for a while now... whoops. The odds of this happening were incredibly slim anyway. He would have had 22 attacks that needed 6s to hit, 6s to glance, and then he would have to get at least 4 damage results to kill it (5s and 6s). He should have found points to give the squad 2 dark lances and just sat them on his own objective and sniped at my tanks. He already had plenty in the way of anti infantry, but only had 2 Dark Lances and 6 thermal lances (his raiders and scourge respectively). MCs can be good VS tanks, but really the only ones that are any good at it are Tyranid MCs with scything talons. Those re-rolls have cost me many wave serpents. His Talos could have been much more lucky, but he also could have failed more than 2% of the FnP rolls he was required to make, so I think his luck balanced itself out throughout the game. I find it usually does.

Revenant Moon Necrons: (W/L/D) 0/1/0 (6th edition: 13/2/2)(5th edition: 14/6/4)(3rd edition Codex: 16/4/7)
XIX Legion: (W/L/D) 0/0/0 (5th edition: 14/12/2)(5th edition Codex: 4/3/0)
Black Legion: (W/L/D) 1/0/0 (6th edition: 2/3/0)
Something Wicked... Reikwald Beastmen: (W/L/D) 10/4/1
Well, naturally the best way to deal with wyches would be to shoot them, but yeah, provided the Hekatrix's agonizer doesn't do too much damage, scorps have much better odds vs wyches than banshees. In the end I'd rather use the scorps to kill objective camping warriors and the like.
