what im finding is that flash gitz are pretty lackluster, although im pretty sure everyone has figured that by now. i'm doing a little tweaking on these units and would like to know your opinions on them and how they could be improved.
- make the eavy armour optional. its good but the idea that they are just shooty nobz, so you shouldn't be forced into taking this upgrade.
- the gitzfindas/targeting squig should make the flash gitz bs 3, this would be very valuable. considering they are still bad shots but their elaborate targeters make them all the more accurate. its all a'bout da teef!
- make the blasta upgrade ap 3 (assuming the snazzgun is ap4) Or you can roll 2D6 and pick the lowest result? gets hot should still apply
- shootier is fine and dandy maybe add a wee bit more range? 30 inch....
- more dakka : have the snazzgun assault 2 in the first place and upgrade to assault 3 (or include the D3 rule lootas have that would replace the assault 1)
- another upgrade to flash gitz, Customized: for 5pt per model make the snazzgun kombi-rokkit, kombi-skorcha or twin-linked.
- switch lootas and flash gitz around in the FOC
this is just an idea, i want to make them a truly powerful shooting unit but still retain balance. the shooty nobz that can decimate dem meq's. is it to op? they should still be expensive but make their cost reflect their deadliness, equal to nobs in cc
kaptin badrukk is the king of kool. he should be a beefed up flash git plus some more so therefore benefits from the bs3 targeter and da rippa is twinlinked. thats all i can think of for him.
what are your thoughts about this hmm?
I really think only one change needs to be made to the flash gitz. They need to be an elite choice, instead of a heavy one. I think most people agree, that their primary handicap isn't so much that they suck, but that there are so many BETTER choices you could use the heavy slot for. Being as most non green tide armies use either 6-9 killa kan's, or a host of battle wagons, the flash gitz never get utilized.
Instead of heavy armor, I'd give them a default cybork. BS 3 would be nice, but I doubt that would ever happen. 2D6 lowest result sounds doable. Ap3 sounds OP for an ork. Range is fine and in line with other units. I like the D3 loota idea.
I think the upgrades kill off the flash gitz as well, 15 more points for the "upgrades" to make them better and they really don't justify the cost or what they do. Maybe making one of the upgrades just a normal rule with out uping the cost. The thing with flash gitz, is that lootas do a better and cheaper job shooting and Nobz do a better job in CC. Flashgitz are the lack luster hybrid of the two.
Repainting Orks not sure how many points yet
Warriors of Chaos shelved until further notice
I used to think Flash Gitz were only good for supplying your army with Kaptin Badrukk, but a local neckbeard showed me the light concerning Flash Gitz. He's won tournaments with them, and after him recommending them, I tried them in a game and beat one of the best players I know.
How could this be? What's the secret?
Don't think of them as a shooty unit that's inferior to lootas, think of them as 'Nobz with gunz'.
The trick with Flash Gitz is you need to assault with them. It's tempting to just hang back and shoot, but that's for lootas. When you assault with them, you'll find that they will utterly annihilate just about anything they hit, and unlike regular nobz, they're usually not a high priority target for opponents.
I use 9-10 with all 3 gun upgrades, painboy, cybork, and a transport (even if they have to borrow a trukk from a unit of boyz). Not only will you be quite good (for the Orks) at shooting enemy units with high toughness and/or low AP, but you'll also be able to assault anything that comes close. The cybork and FNP will keep you in the fight, and turn many losses into wins.
I agree with greggles that their main problem is that they're a heavy support choice, especially since they can't take a dedicated transport. If you want to buy one for them directly, you have to use up two heavy support slots, and on foot they're vulnerable to shooting. In all fairness, they should be an elite choice and lootas should be heavy support. It just makes a lot more sense that way.
"Any job worth doing, is worth doing with a powerklaw."
I think that the gitfinder will change or be phased out entirely- the whole measuring range thing seems to be falling out of favor with gw's latest stuff as far as I can tell. I'd be happy with either having them twin linked or bs 3. Having the option to take some sort of "flash boss" would be cool (I believe its a term used in Dawn of War?)- either a souped up flash git that can take a powerklaw and/or amazing shoota, or a warboss that can take a massive, souped-up shoota with a retinue of flash gitz. It would be cool to see them have options of different ammo to use each turn- frag shells that create a small blast with one shot each, armor penetrating shells with one shot each, or rapid fire shells perhaps...
In short, theres a lot that could be done to improve them and make them more dynamic and characterful.
Grax, I'm shocked to see you backing Gitz! What's next, supporting tankbustas and deff dreds!?!? Hehehe.
I'm still skeptical though. It seems like nobz would almost always be superior, especially in close combat where they're much cheaper and can take the ever-important power klaws. We're talking about 15 points more per model than a nob that has been equiped with cybork body and eavy armor. Two flash gitz will cost you more than two nobz when one of those nobz has a power klaw.
I've always been a flash git fan and have used them a couple times for fun, but I'm struggling to see how they can justify their huge points cost and lack of powerklaw and bosspole options...
A new plastic kit, or an upgrade sprue for existing nobz would probably change my mind though
yeah the gitfinda thing needs a fix, that and making em an elites choice seems good enough. geez what was i thinking....
