Welcome to Librarium Online!
Hello all, Im new to 40k and I was just wondering about some models if anyone would be so kind as to shoot me an answer.
Well the question I want answered most is: Where are the models for some of the Codex stats. The selection at that GW site is quite small compared to the book so I was curious if they expect you to purchase a model and modify it to get what you want or if the new units (i.e. Doom, Tyrannofex, tervigon and etc) will come out for later?
Another question that just popped in my head is about the Red terror, they have a baseline stat on the website and a model, but the codex only mentions a fluff story about it, so is it playable or just there to be pretty?
Thanks for any answers and I hope to get my fist game in with them this weekend so I can see if playing is as enjoyable as reading about them in the codex.
Well, with any army you collect, there are going to be some models that Games Workshop hasn't released for it that you need to do converting yourself for some of the models. For example, if you look at the Tervigon, you will find it is pretty much the same as a Carnifex except with sacs on its belly and the pairs of Scything Talons on the ground so it supports it. There are many simple and complicated conversions you can do with the Tyranids, and that's why so many people like them and play with them.
To answer your second question, buying the Red Terror is a waste of time, because not only does it not exist in the Codex, but it's an ugly model anyway.
Alright then, I appreciate the quick reply and thanks
Im sure GW wont have a tervigon model out soon, they are cheap like that. They have made the fex's not as good in the last version but in doing this they know nobody will buy them anymore, so instead of building new models, they encourage us to convert the fex kit's. And I to second on Warlord's comment on the Red Terror.

I used to use the red terror model as a ravenear until it broke (sad face ) It was sort of a sergeant figure Also as mentioned before for those models you need to do a bit of conversion work. The tervigon model is pretty simple, just do what Warlord Vrrmik said but I'm still trying to come up with a convincing model for a mycetic spore. For Doom I just use a normal zoanthrope and paint it slightly differently so it stands out.
Hmmm.....im really dont mind the idea of conversions. Ive never actaully done anything past retro fitting some odd pieces so it will be quite different for me. Does anyone know why GW hasnt made all the models for what they put into the codexes? Warhammer isnt a new game so I can imagine it has be a time issue or did they just flat out admit they wont and good luck with the conversions (for the exception of the marines and imperial who seem to have all they need pre-made)
After being in the hobby long enough you'll notice that GW isn't the most reliable organization (sadly)... They may release the models eventually but I wouldn't bet on them being released any time soon (years). One of the reasons e.g. space marines have pretty much everything pre made is because they have a bigger fanbase and more people play them (my local GW store contains of about 60% marine players). Also by not releasing a tervigon model people are actually going to buy quite a bit of the carnifex models (for the tervigon conversion) otherwise the carnifex sales would be rather low.
Not even Space Marines have -everything-available as premade kits. But there's a positive way to look at it - modelling and conversion can be a lot of fun, and in the end you've got a unique army.
When it comes to conversions, such as a Carnifex to an tervigon, how can you be sure what size base to use? It would be such a was to model up an awesome custom job that you are completely happy with, including a great basing job, only to find out they decided on a different sized base. Then you run the risk of ruining a model full of you blood, sweat, and tears. Just the thought of that makes me sad
Just use the base of the main model you are using for conversion. You will soon realize after conversion that the Tervigon talons don't all fit on the base. It doesn't really matter if the talons go over a bit, no one's going to complain.
@Trygon, I just painted my Doom of Malan'tai's chitin with a Warlock Purple feathering instead of Liche Purple feathering.
I am lazy... I bought my Mycetic Spore as a resin model from Greece on eBay. $50 including postage.
