Hey 'Cron Players,
Wondering on your thoughts on running a full Destroyer Wing- 3 5-man Destroyers, 3 3-man Heavy Destroyers, and at least one Destroyer Lord. Anyone used this? Thoughts?
All the stuff I could find on Destroyer Wings seem to include immortals and monoliths in the list. Is this necessary?
My ideal list would be 2-3 units of warriors and one non-destroyer lord with veil of darkness and a res orb in addition to the destroyer wing. I'm thinking the plan would be to play the warriors really conservatively, perhaps in reserves, with the lord there to provide a res orb for them. Hide them in cover and provide fire to things that get within 24 inches.
The Destroyers hunt as a pack, focusing fire on the biggest threats and staying out of range of assaults and short-ranged shooting. Heavies shoot at the highest armor and MC's, regulars focus on shooting troops and light vehicles when needed. The regular destroyers could also manuver to get shots at rear armor etc. The destroyer lord can break off and chop up vehicles etc. with his warsythe.
Any thoughts? Could I pull this off in a 1500 point list, or 1850?
Thanks for your advice!!!
don't forget you have to put at least 2 warrior squad on the table and that would make them juicy targets.
you might be able to pull it off but I think it would be really difficult. Also with a monolith you can't really go wrong, it's usefull in almost all necron builds.
Unfortunately, the full destroyer wing list just won't fit in anything under 2000 points, as the Destroyers, H Destroyers and D Lord themselves cost over 1500 pts. However, if you were to drop the D Lord and have only 2 squads of warriors, you could fit it in at 1850. It is a pretty cool list as most players aren't expecting Necrons to be very fast even though we have 5 units in our codex that count as Jetbikes.
World Eaters: W-47 D-10 L-9
Necrons: W-19 D-3 L-2
Protectorate of Menoth: W-36 D-0 L-7
It would be a sweet list! Troops are the achilles' heel here though. I wonder if I could cram 3 groups of 10 into a 2000 pointer and still have enough for all the destroyers? Hmmn. The objective-grabbing would be tough. You'd really have to prioritize keeping them (warriors) alive and in cover, and work hard to hold your own objective(s). Destroyers could turbo-boost to contest objectives or focus fire to remove threats, but it'd be tough. The Veil of Darkness lord could send one warrior squad onto an objective in the last turn.
One thing fun about this list would be that a lot of opponents would go straight for your warriors, trying to eliminate your troops. It'd be a blast to manipulate their movements while raining death with destroyers!!! Muahahaha
Actually in Spearhead its possible to run nothing but Destroyers. I have 10 Destroyers, 6 Heavy Destroyers and 2 Destroyer Lords in my collection for that exact purpose in mind...
I've also used them all a couple of times with 3000 pts list... Damn it was fun to see opponents face when a total of 18 Destroyers turboboosted from one side of the table to totally another side just to catch some enemy tanks and walkers in crossfire next turn.
Revenant Moon Necrons: (W/L/D) 0/1/0 (6th edition: 13/2/2)(5th edition: 14/6/4)(3rd edition Codex: 16/4/7)
XIX Legion: (W/L/D) 0/0/0 (5th edition: 14/12/2)(5th edition Codex: 4/3/0)
Black Legion: (W/L/D) 1/0/0 (6th edition: 2/3/0)
Something Wicked... Reikwald Beastmen: (W/L/D) 10/4/1
That sounds awesome. Do you think the list would function at 2k without a monolith? Could the warriors survive?
grabing objectives wins games Yes becuase its the mission
But annilating your enemy removes the need ot hold objectives and as 'crons only care about wipping the universe of all life just play as if your playing annialtion and smash them up dont worry about getting objectives just stop them holding any
draghkar, that is so evil and necrony! love it! I should have expected such from an evil beast like a draghkar, you soul-sucking bastard
=D i play orks and will be starting 'crons soon enough im also trying to swap out my Nids to get my WFB Vampires up and running and i always just play analiated why play smash and grab when you cna just sluaghter stuff it works in about 80% of my games
Btw my orks are shootie
At present the most effective Necron tournament armies I've come across seem to have minimal troop, and pretty much Destroyer wing after troops usually with Nightbringer thrown in for good measure. With monoliths not counting towards phase out an experienced player will ignore it as will they ignore Pariahs.T5 3+ wbb armour saves. If youre playing with enough models then go for your 15 destroyers,9 Heavy destroyers and a Destroyer Lord with Night bringer and 2 x10 man core units.
Devastating shooting with good dice rolls and able to contest objectives with turbo boost.
