I usually like to watch/listen to something I can associate with whatever army I'm painting when I sit down to paint. For me the Hellraiser movies and Rocky Horror Picture Show really drum up images of Dark Eldar for me. The cenobites from Hellraiser almost seem like the direct influence for the Haemonculi. The aliens from RHPS(Frank n furter mostly) remind me of the Dark Eldar with the whole black scant clothing and excessive lifestyle.
League Stats: Orks 4W-1L-1T, CSM 4W-2L-0T, Dark Eldar 10W-6L-4T, Tau 3W-1L-1T, Blood Angels 4W-1L-1T, Imperial Guard 2W-1L-0T
Tourney Stats: Blood Angels 6W-0L-0T, Dark Eldar 2W-1L-0T
Does this mean that your Dark Eldar have pins in their faces, and are confused about their sexuality???
For me, I like to listen to the band Nightwish while painting my DE. Not just because I think they are great, but also because it allows me to imagine more vividly in the gothic style. I can picture my dark colours a lot clearer, and it sets the atmosphere. It sounds silly, but its what keeps me at it.
Check out some of their songs. Its metal... orchestral metal.
Light a fire for a man, and he will be warm for a night. Light a man on fire, and he will be warm for the rest of his life.
I watch the Saw films while I paint them, It fits in with the whole torture theme, as my Kabal is rather odd, Instead of just seeing how many things they can remove until the tortured goes mad with pain, they put them in traps that if they fail, doesn't kill them, but traps them in the coven to be tortured forever, and if they do succseed, Teleports them to a populated planet.
So saw really gets me in the mood of Dark Eldar, and that's what I watch.
been listening to "Over the hills and far away"
I can really picture legions of Kabalite Warriors marching under the strict gaze of their archon!!
Generally speaking I quite enjoy "two steps from hell" while fancing heroic deeds accomplished by my models!
Typically I just listen to music that I enjoy.
However as a fan of death metal, it is all too easy to be distracted when putting together fiddly bits.
Christmas songs. Nothing says horrible torture like Christmas songs.
For Dark Eldar you need something truly dark:
NEWS VIEW Edition 1 - For July 4, 2008.mp4 vs. Cex - First For Wounds by VJ Not Sure | YouTube Doubler | Mashup Helper
Hypnotic ravings, (boost speaking volume, reduce the music)
Copy, Improve, Innovate
I have 2 pandora radio stations for dark eldar and dark elves E nomine and poisonblack. Those are the bands that form the base of the station.
NEW DARK ELDAR! Hold all armies I have a new purpose in life!
Hardcore-lover/gabber here, and what I find works very well for me is music from the darkcore genre. Enzyme X has a few releases that are both dark, hard and fast. Dark Eldar at its core.
Innovation suffuses this hobby like a tea bag in the boiling water of play.
Anything really, but have to agree with The Hawk for my favourite being Nightwish, or Delain for that matter. Both are dark gothic music and go with any 40K painting really, quite inspirational.
